2 Chronicles 34 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 Yaashayah (Josiah) was shamanah (eight) shanayam (two) ban (son) when he began to malak (king); and he malak (king) shalawashayam (thirty) - achad (one) shanayam (two) in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

2 He ishah (make) that which was yashar (upright) in the iyanay (eyes) of Yahawah (), and yalak (walked) in the darakay (ways) of Dawad (David) his ab (father), and didn't sawar (turn) aside to the right yamayan (right hand) or to the shamaawal (left hand).

3 For in the shamanah (eighth) shanah (year) of his malak (king), while he was yet nair (young), he chalal (began) to darash (seek) after the Alahayam () of Dawad (David) his ab (father); and in the shanayam (two) shanah (year) he chalal (began) to tahar (purge) Yahawadah (Judah) and Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) from the bamah (high) places, and the Asharah (Asherim), and the engraved pasalayam (images), and the masakah (molten) images.

4 They nathatz (broke) down the mazabachawath (altars) of the Bail (Baals) in his panayam (face); and the incense chamanayam (altars) that were on mail (top/above) above them he gadai (cut) down; and the Asharah (Asherim), and the engraved pasalayam (images), and the molten pasalayam (images), he shabar (broke) in pieces, and daqaq (made) dust of them, and zaraq (strewed) it on the qabarayam (graves) of those who had zabach (sacrificed) to them.

5 He burnt the itzamawath (bones) of the kahanayam (priests) on their mazabachawathayam (altars), and tahar (purged) Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) and Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

6 He did this in the iray (cities) of Manashah (Manasseh) and Aparayam (Ephraim) and Shamaiwan (Simeon), even to Napathalay (Naphtali), around in their ruins.

7 He nathatz (broke) down the mazabachawath (altars), and kathath (beat) the Asharah (Asherim) and the engraved pasalayam (images) into daqaq (powder), and gadai (cut) down all the incense chamanayam (altars) throughout all the aratz (Earth/land) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and shawab (turn) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

8 Now in the eighteenth shanah (year) of his malak (king), when he had tahar (purged) the aratz (Earth/land) and the bayath (house), he shalach (send) Shapan (Shaphan) the ban (son) of Atzalayahaw (Azaliah), and Maishayah (Maaseiah) the shar (prince / ruler) of the iyar (city), and Yawaach (Joah) the ban (son) of Yawaachaz (Joahaz) the zakar (remember), to chazaq (repair) the bayath (house) of Yahawah () his Alahayam ().

9 They bawaa (come) to Chalaqayah (Hilkiah) the gadawal (very great/important/mighty) kahan (priest), and nathan (give) the kasap (money) that was bawaa (come) into the bayath (house) of Alahayam (), which the Lawayay (Levites), the keepers of the sap (threshold), had asap (gathered) of the yad (hand) of Manashah (Manasseh) and Aparayam (Ephraim), and of all the shaarayath (remnant) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and of all Yahawadah (Judah) and Banayamayan (Benjamin), and of the inhabitants of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem).

10 They nathan (give) it into the yad (hand) of the workmen who paqad (visit) the oversight of the bayath (house) of Yahawah (); and the workmen who labored in the bayath (house) of Yahawah () nathan (give) it to chazaq (mend) and badaq (repair) the bayath (house);

11 Even to the charashayam (carpenters) and to the banayam (builders) nathan (give) they it, to qanah (buy) cut aban (stone), and itz (timber) for machabarawath (couplings), and to make qarah (beams) for the bathayam (houses) which the malakay (kings) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) had shachath (destroyed).

12 The anashayam (men) ishah (make) the malaakah (work) faithfully: and their natzach (overseers) were Yachath (Jahath) and Ibadayah (Obadiah), the Lawayay (Levites), of the banay (my son) of Mararay (Merari); and Zakarayah (Zechariah) and Mashalam (Meshullam), of the sons of the Qahathay (Kohathites), to paqad (visit) it forward; and others of the Lawayay (Levites), all who were skillful with kalay (instruments) of music.

13 Also they were over the sabalayam (bearers) of burdens, and natzach (set) forward all who ishah (make) the malaakah (work) in every kind of ibadah (service): and of the Lawayay (Levites) there were sawaparayam (scribes), and shatarayam (officers), and shawairayam (porters).

14 When they yatzaa (go out / come out) out the kasap (money) that was bawaa (come) into the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), Chalaqayah (Hilkiah) the kahan (priest) matzaa (found) the sapar (book / scribed document) of the thawarah (instruction) of Yahawah () given by Mashah (Moses).

15 Chalaqayah (Hilkiah) inah (answer / respond) Shapan (Shaphan) the sapar (book), “I matzaa (have) found the sapar (book / scribed document) of the thawarah (instruction) in the bayath (house).” of Yahawah (). Chalaqayah (Hilkiah) nathan (give) the sapar (book / scribed document) to Shapan (Shaphan).

16 Shapan (Shaphan) bawaa (bring) the sapar (book / scribed document) to the malak (king), and moreover shawab (turn) shawab (turn) dabar (word / matter) to the malak (king), amar (said), “All that was nathan (give) to your ibad (servant), they are ishah (make).

17 They have emptied out the kasap (money) that was matzaa (found) in the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), and nathan (give) delivered it into the yad (hand) of the mapaqadayam (overseers), and into the yad (hand) of the workmen.”

18 Shapan (Shaphan) the sapar (book) nagad (told) the malak (king), amar (said), “Chalaqayah (Hilkiah) the kahan (priest) nathan (give) delivered me a sapar (book / scribed document).” Shapan (Shaphan) qaraa (called) therein panayam (face) the malak (king).

19 It happened, when the malak (king) had shamai (hearken / hear) the dabaray (words) of the thawarah (Torah / Instruction), that he qarai (tore) his clothes.

20 The malak (king) tzawah (commanded) Chalaqayah (Hilkiah), and Achayaqam (Ahikam) the ban (son) of Shapan (Shaphan), and Ibadawan (Abdon) the ban (son) of Mayakah (Micah), and Shapan (Shaphan) the sapar (book), and Ishayah (Asaiah) the malak (king) ibad (servant), amar (said),

21 “Yalak (go) darash (inquire) of Yahawah () for me, and for those who are shaar (left) in Yashar-Al (Israel) and in Yahawadah (Judah), concerning the dabaray (words) of the sapar (book / scribed document) that is matzaa (found); for gadawal (very great/important/mighty) is the chamah (wrath) of Yahawah () that is nathak (poured) out on us, because our ab (father) have not shamar (keep/guard) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), to ishah (make) according to all that is kathab (write) in this sapar (book / scribed document).”

22 So Chalaqayah (Hilkiah), and they whom the malak (king) had commanded, yalak (went) to Chaladah (Huldah) the nabayaah (prophetess), the ayashah (woman / wife) of Shalawam (peace / safety) the ban (son) of Tokhath, the ban (son) of Chasarah (Hasrah), keeper of the bagad (wardrobe); (now she lived in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) in the mashanah (second) quarter;) and they dabar (word / matter) to her to that effect.

23 She amar (spoke) to them, “Thus amaraw (says) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel): ‘amar (spoke) the ayash (man / husband) who shalach (send) you to me,

24 “Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘Behold, I will bawaa (come) rai (evil) on this maqawam (place), and on its yashab (inhabit/dwell), even all the alawath (curses) that are kathab (write) in the sapar (book / scribed document) which they have qaraa (called) panayam (face) the malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah).

25 Because they have forsaken me, and have qatar (burned) incense to other Alahayam (), that they might provoke me to kais (anger) with all the maishay (works) of their yad (hand); therefore is my chamah (wrath) nathak (poured) out on this maqawam (place), and it shall not be kabah (quenched).’”’

26 But to the malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah), who shalach (send) you to darash (inquire) of Yahawah (), thus you shall amar (spoke) him, ‘Thus thaamaraw (says) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel): “As touching the dabarayam (words) which you have shamai (hearken / hear),

27 Because your labab (heart) was rakak (tender), and you kanai (humbled) yourself panayam (face) Alahayam (), when you shamai (hearken / hear) his dabar (word / matter) against this maqawam (place), and against its yashab (inhabit/dwell), and have kanai (humbled) yourself panayam (face) me, and have qarai (torn) your clothes, and bakah (wept) panayam (face) me; I also have shamai (hearken / hear) you,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

28 “Behold, I will asap (gather) you to your ab (father), and you shall be asap (gathered) to your qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) in shalawam (peace / safety), neither shall your iyan (eye) raah (see / saw) all the rai (evil) that I will bawaa (bring) on this maqawam (place), and on its yashab (inhabit/dwell).”’” They shawab (turn) shawab (turn) dabar (word / matter) to the malak (king).

29 Then the malak (king) shalach (send) and asap (gathered) together all the zaqanay (elders) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) and Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

30 The malak (king) ilah (go up / offer) up to the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), and all the ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Judah) and the yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and the kahanayam (priests), and the Lawayay (Levites), and all the im (nation / people), both gadawal (very great/important/mighty) and qatan (small / young / least): and he qaraa (called) in their azan (ear) all the dabaray (words) of the sapar (book / scribed document) of the barayath (covenant) that was matzaa (found) in the bayath (house) of Yahawah ().

31 The malak (king) imad (stood) in his imad (place), and karath (cut) a barayath (covenant) panayam (face) Yahawah (), to yalak (walk) achar (other) Yahawah (), and to shamar (keep/guard) his matzawah (commandments), and his idawath (testimonies), and his chaq (statute), with all his labab (heart), and with all his napash (soul), to ishah (make) the dabaray (words) of the barayath (covenant) that were kathab (write) in this sapar (book / scribed document).

32 He caused all who were matzaa (found) in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) and Banayamayan (Benjamin) to imad (stand). The yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) ishah (make) according to the barayath (covenant) of Alahayam (), the Alahayam () of their ab (father).

33 Yaashayah (Josiah) sawar (took) away all the thawaibawath (abominations) out of all the aratzawath (countries) that pertained to the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and made all who were matzaa (found) in Yashar-Al (Israel) to ibad (servant), even to ibad (servant) Yahawah () their Alahayam (). All his yawam (day) they didn't sawar (depart) from achar (other) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of their ab (father).
