Nehemiah 9 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Now in the isharayam (twenty) - arabai (four) yawam (day) of this chadash (month) the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) were asap (assembled) with tzawam (fasting), and with sackcloth, and adamah (earth) on them.

The zarai (seed) of Yashar-Al (Israel) badal (separated) themselves from all foreigners, and imad (stood) and yadah (confessed) their chataah (sin), and the iwanawath (iniquities) of their ab (father).

They qawam (rise up) up in their imad (place), and qaraa (called) in the sapar (book / scribed document) of the thawarah (instruction) of Yahawah () their Alahayam () a rabayaiy (fourth) part of the yawam (day); and a rabayaiy (fourth) part they yadah (confessed), and shachah (worshiped) Yahawah () their Alahayam ().

Then Yashawai (Jeshua), and Banay (Bani), Qadamayaal (Kadmiel), Shabanayah (Shebaniah), Banay (Bunni), Sharabayah (Sherebiah), Banay (Bani), and Kananay (Chenani) of the Lawayay (Levites) qawam (rise up) up on the mailah (stairs), and zaiq (cried) with a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) qawal (sound / voice) to Yahawah () their Alahayam ().

Then the Lawayay (Levites), Yashawai (Jeshua), and Qadamayaal (Kadmiel), Banay (Bani), Chashabanayah (Hashabneiah), Sharabayah (Sherebiah), Hawadayah (Hodiah), Shabanayah (Shebaniah), and Pathachayah (Pethahiah), amar (spoke), “qawam (rise up) up and barak (blessed) Yahawah () your Alahayam () from iwalam (forever) to iwalam (forever)! Bessed be your kabawad (glorious) sham (name), which is rawam (will lift up) above all barakah (blessing) and thahalah (praise)!

You are Yahawah (), even you alone. You ishah (make) made shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens), the shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens) of shamay (heavens), with all their tzabaa (troop), the aratz (Earth/land) and all things that are on it, the yamayam (seas) and all that is in them, and you chayah (preserve) them all. The tzabaa (troop) of shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens) mashathachawayam (worships) you.

You are Yahawah (), the Alahayam () who bachar (chose) Abaram (Abram), and yatzaa (go out / come out) him out of Awar (Ur) of the Kashaday (Chaldees), and shawam (place / establish / appoint) him the sham (name) of Abaraham (Abraham),

And matzaa (found) his labab (heart) aman (believe / have faith) panayam (face) you, and karath (cut) a barayath (covenant) with him to nathan (give) the aratz (Earth/land) of the Kanainay (Canaanite), the Chathay (Hittite), the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite), and the Parazay (Perizzite), and the Yabawasay (Jebusite), and the Garagashay (Girgashite), to nathan (give) it to his zarai (seed), and have qawam (rise up) your dabar (word / matter); for you are tzadayaq (righteous).

“You raah (see / saw) the inay (affliction) of our ab (father) in Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and shamai (hearken / hear) their zaiq (cry) by the sawap (red) yam (sea/waters),

And showed athath (signs) and mapathayam (wonders) against Paraih (Pharaoh), and against all his ibad (servant), and against all the im (nation / people) of his aratz (Earth/land); for you yadai (knew) that they dealt zawad (proudly) against them, and ishah (make) a sham (name) for yourself, as it is this yawam (day).

You baqai (divided) the yam (sea/waters) panayam (face) them, so that they ibar (pass over/through) through the thawak (midst) of the yam (sea/waters) on the dry yabashah (dry land); and you shalak (cast) their radap (pursuers) into the matzawalath (depths), as a aban (stone) into the iz (mighty) mayam (Waters).

Moreover, in a imawad (pillar) of inan (cloud) you nachah (led) them by yawamam (by day); and in a imawad (pillar) of ash (fire) by layal (night), to give them awar (light) in the darak (way) in which they should yalak (go).

“You yarad (came) down also on har (mountain) Sayanay (Sinai), and dabar (word / matter) with them from shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens), and nathan (give) them yashar (upright) mashapatayam (ordinances) and amath (truth) thawarawath (laws), tawab (good / proper function) chaqayam (statutes) and matzawath (commandment),

And yadai (made) known to them your qadash (set apart / make holy) shabath (shabath / rest), and tzawah (commanded) them matzawawath (commandments), and chaqayam (statutes), and a thawarah (Torah / Instruction), by Mashah (Moses) your ibad (servant),

And nathan (give) them lacham (bread) from the sky for their raib (hunger), and yatzaa (go out / come out) forth mayam (Waters) for them out of the salai (rock) for their tzamaa (thirst), and commanded them that they should bawaa (bring) in to yarash (possess) the aratz (Earth/land) which you had yad (hand) to nathan (give) them.

“But they and our ab (father) dealt zawad (proudly) and hardened their irap (neck), didn't shamai (hearken / hear) to your matzawah (commandments),

And maan (refused) to shamai (hearken / hear), neither were they zakar (remember) of your palaa (be wonderful / extraordinary / marvelous) that you ishah (make) among them, but hardened their irap (neck), and in their rebellion nathan (give) a raash (head) to shawab (turn back / repent) to their ibadawath (bondage). But you are a Alawah () ready to salayachah (pardon), chanawan (gracious) and rachawam (merciful), arak (slow) to ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting), and abundant in loving chasad (grace), and didn't izab (forsake) them.

Yes, when they ishah (make) made them a masakah (molten) igal (calf), and amar (spoke), ‘This is your Alahayam () who ilah (go up / offer) you up out of Matzarayam (Egypt),’ and ishah (make) committed awful naatzawath (blasphemies);

Yet you in your manifold racham (show mercy / love) didn't izab (forsake) them in the madabar (wilderness): the imawad (pillar) of inan (cloud) didn't sawar (depart) from over them by yawamam (by day), to nachah (lead) them in the darak (way); neither the imawad (pillar) of ash (fire) by layal (night), to show them awar (light), and the darak (way) in which they should yalak (go).

You nathan (give) also your tawab (good / proper function) rawach (spirit / wind) to shakal (instruct) them, and didn't manai (withhold) your man (from) from their pah (mouth), and nathan (give) them mayam (Waters) for their tzamaa (thirst).

“Yes, arabaiyam (forty) shanah (years) you kawal (all) them in the madabar (wilderness). They chasar (lacked) nothing. Their shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) didn't grow balah (old), and their ragal (feet / foot) didn't batzaq (swell).

Moreover you nathan (give) them mamalakawath (kingdoms) and imamayam (peoples), which you allotted according to their portions. So they yarash (possessed) the aratz (Earth/land) of Sayachawan (Sihon), even the aratz (Earth/land) of the malak (king) of Chashabawan (Heshbon), and the aratz (Earth/land) of Iwag (Og) malak (king) of Bashan (Bashan).

You also rabah (multiplied) their ban (son) as the kakabay (stars) of the sky, and bawaa (bring) them into the aratz (Earth/land) concerning which you amar (said) to their ab (father), that they should bawaa (bring) in to yarash (possess) it.

“So the banayam (children) bawaa (bring) in and yarash (possessed) the aratz (Earth/land), and you kanai (subdued) panayam (face) them the yashabay (inhabitants) of the aratz (Earth/land), the Kanainay (Canaanite), and nathan (give) them into their yad (hand), with their malak (king), and the imamay (peoples) of the aratz (Earth/land), that they might ishah (make) with them as they pleased.

They lakad (took) batzar (fortified) irayam (cities), and a rich adamah (land), and yarash (possessed) bathayam (houses) malaa (full) of all tawab (good / proper function) things, barawath (cisterns) chatzab (dug) out, karamayam (vineyards), and zayath (olive) groves, and maakal (fruit) itz (trees) in rab (abundance). So they akal (eat), were shabai (filled), shaman (became) fat, and idan (Idan / Eden) themselves in your gadawal (very great/important/mighty) goodness.

“Nevertheless they were marah (disobedient), and marad (rebelled) against you, and shalak (cast) your thawarah (Torah / Instruction) achar (other) their gaw (back), and harag (kill) your nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) that iwad (admonish/bear witness against) against them to shawab (turn) them again to you, and they ishah (make) awful naatzawath (blasphemies).

Therefore you nathan (give) them into the yad (hand) of their tzar (oppressor / distressor), who tzar (oppressor / distressor) them. In the ith (time) of their tzarah (trouble), when they tzaiq (cried) to you, you shamai (hearken / hear) from shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens); and according to your manifold racham (show mercy / love) you nathan (give) them saviors who yashai (salvation) them out of the yad (hand) of their tzar (oppressor / distressor).

But after they had nawach (rest), they ishah (make) rai (evil) again panayam (face) you; therefore izab (left) you them in the yad (hand) of their ayab (enemy), so that they radah (rule over / have dominion of / subdue) the dominion over them; yet when they shawab (turn), and zaiq (cried) to you, you shamai (hearken / hear) from shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens); and many ithayam (times) you natzal (delivered) them according to your racham (show mercy / love),

And iwad (admonish/bear witness against) against them, that you might shawab (turn) them again to your thawarah (Torah / Instruction). Yet they dealt zawad (proudly), and didn't shamai (hearken / hear) to your matzawah (commandments), but chataa (sinned) against your mashapat (ordinances), (which if a adam (man) ishah (make), he shall chayah (live) in them), nathan (give) their backs, stiffened their irap (neck), and would not shamai (hearken / hear).

Yet many shanayam (two) you put up with them, and iwad (admonish/bear witness against) against them by your rawach (spirit / wind) yad (hand) your nabayaa (prophet/prophecy). Yet nathan (give) they not give azan (ear). Therefore you nathan (give) them into the yad (hand) of the imay (peoples) of the aratzath (lands).

“Nevertheless in your manifold racham (show mercy / love) you ishah (make) not make a kalah (complete / finish) end of them, nor izab (forsake) them; for you are a chanawan (gracious) and rachawam (merciful) Al.

Now therefore, our Alahayam (), the gadawal (very great/important/mighty), the gabawar (mighty), and the awesome Al, who shamar (keep/guard) barayath (covenant) and loving chasad (grace), don't let all the thalaah (travail) seem mait (little) panayam (face) you, that matzaa (has) come on us, on our malakay (kings), on our shar (prince / ruler), and on our kahan (priest), and on our nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and on our ab (father), and on all your im (nation / people), yawam (day) the time of the malakay (kings) of Ashawar (Assyria) to this yawam (day).

However you are tzadayaq (righteous) in all that bawaa (bring) come on us; for you ishah (make) dealt truly, but we ishah (make) done wickedly;

Neither have our malak (king), our shar (prince / ruler), our kahan (priest), nor our ab (father), ishah (make) your thawarah (Torah / Instruction), nor listened to your matzawah (commandments) and your idawath (testimonies) with which you iwad (admonish/bear witness against) against them.

For they have not ibad (servant) you in their malakawath (kingdom), and in your rab (great) goodness that you nathan (give) them, and in the rachab (large) and rich aratz (Earth/land) which you nathan (give) panayam (face) them, neither did they shawab (turn) from their rai (wicked) mailal (works).

“Behold, we are ibadayam (servants) this yawam (day), and as for the aratz (Earth/land) that you nathan (give) to our ab (father) to akal (eat) its paray (fruit) and its tawab (good / proper function), behold, we are ibadayam (servants) in it.

It rabah (yields) much thabawaah (increase) to the malakayam (kings) whom you nathan (give) set over us because of our chataah (sin): also they have mashal (rule/have dominion) over our gawayah (corpse), and over our livestock, at their ratzawan (pleasure), and we are in gadawal (very great/important/mighty) tzarah (distress).

Now those who chatham (sealed) were: Nachamayah (Nehemiah) the governor, the son of Hacaliah, and Tzadaqayah (Zedekiah),
