Job 1 — English–Hebrew Parallel

There was a ayash (man / husband) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Iwatz (Uz), whose sham (name) was Ayawab (Job). That ayash (man / husband) was blameless and yashar (upright), and ayash (man / husband) who yaraa (feared) Alahayam (), and sawar (turned) away from rai (evil).

And he was yalad (born) shabai (seven) ban (sons) and shalawash (three) banath (daughters).

His maqanah (possessions) also were shabai (seven) alap (thousand) tzaan (sheep), shalawash (three) alap (thousand) gamalayam (camels), chamash (five) maah (hundred) tzamad (yoke) of oxen, chamash (five) maah (hundred) female donkeys, and a very rab (great) ibadah (household); so that this ayash (man / husband) was the greatest of all the banay (my son) of the qadam (east).

His ban (son) halak (move) and held a mashathah (feast) in the house of ayash (man / husband) ayash (man / husband) on his birthday; and they shalach (send) and qaraa (called) for their shalawash (three) achawath (sisters) to akal (eat) and to shathah (drinks) with them.

It was so, when the yamay (days) of their mashathah (feasting) had run their course, that Ayawab (Job) shalach (send) and qadash (set apart / make holy) them, and shakam (rose) up early in the baqar (morning), and ilah (go up / offer) burnt ilawath (offerings) according to the masapar (number) of them all. For Ayawab (Job) amar (spoke), “It awalay (perhaps) be that my ban (son) have chataa (sinned), and renounced Alahayam () in their labab (hearts).” Ayawab (Job) ishah (make) this yawam (day).

Now it happened on the yawam (day) when Alahayam () banay (sons) bawaa (come) to yatzab (present) themselves before Yahawah (), that shatan (satan) also bawaa (come) thawak (midst) them.

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to shatan (satan), “ayan (NO ONE) bawaa (come) you come from?” Then shatan (satan) inah (answer / respond) Yahawah (), and amar (spoke), “From shawat (going) back and forth in the aratz (Earth/land), and from halak (move) up and down in it.”

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to shatan (satan), “Have you shawam (place / establish / appoint) my ibad (servant), Ayawab (Job)? For there is none like him in the aratz (Earth/land), a blameless and an yashar (upright) ayash (man / husband), ayash (man / husband) who yaraa (fears) Alahayam (), and turns away from rai (evil).”

Then shatan (satan) inah (answer / respond) Yahawah (), and amar (spoke), “Does Ayawab (Job) yaraa (fear / be afraid) Alahayam () for chanam (nothing)?

Haven't you made a shawak (hedge) around him, and around his bayath (house), and around all that he has, on sabayab (surrounding) side? You have barak (blessed) the maishah (work) of his yad (hand), and his maqanah (substance) is paratz (increased) in the aratz (Earth/land).

But shalach (send) forth your yad (hand) now, and nagai (touch) barak (blessed) that he has, and he will renounce you to your panayam (face).”

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to shatan (satan), “Behold, all that he has is in your yad (hand). Only on himself don't shalach (send) forth your yad (hand).” So shatan (satan) shalach (send) forth from the panayam (face) of Yahawah ().

It fell on a yawam (day) when his ban (son) and his banath (daughter) were akal (eat) and shathah (drinks) yayan (wine) in their bakawar (eldest) ach (brother/kinsman) bayath (house),

That there bawaa (bring) a malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) to Ayawab (Job), and amar (said), “The oxen were charash (plowing), and the donkeys raih (feeding) yad (hand) them,

And the Shabaa (Sabeans) attacked, and laqach (take / seize) them away. Yes, they have nakah (killed) the nairayam (servants) with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), and I malat (alone) have escaped to nagad (tell) you.”

While he was still dabar (word / matter), there also bawaa (come) another, and amar (spoke), “The ash (fire) of Alahayam () napal (fall / be cast down) fallen from the sky, and has bair (burned) up the tzaan (sheep) and the nairayam (servants), and akal (eat) them, and I malat (alone) have escaped to nagad (tell) you.”

While he was still dabar (word / matter), there bawaa (bring) also another, and amar (said), “The Kashaday (Chaldeans) shawam (place / establish / appoint) shalawash (three) raashayam (bands), and swept down on the gamalayam (camels), and have laqach (take / seize) them away, yes, and nakah (killed) the nairayam (servants) with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword); and I malat (alone) have escaped to nagad (tell) you.”

While he was still dabar (word / matter), there bawaa (bring) also another, and amar (said), “Your ban (son) and your banath (daughter) were akal (eat) and shathah (drinks) yayan (wine) in their bakawar (eldest) ach (brother/kinsman) bayath (house),

And behold, there bawaa (bring) a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) rawach (spirit / wind) from the madabar (wilderness), and nagai (struck) the arabai (four) panawath (corners) of the bayath (house), and it napal (fall / be cast down) on the nair (young) men, and they are mawath (death). I malat (alone) have escaped to nagad (tell) you.”

Then Ayawab (Job) qawam (rise up), and qarai (tore) his maiyal (robe), and gazaz (shaved) his raash (head), and napal (fall / be cast down) down on the aratz (Earth/land), and shachah (worshiped).

He amar (spoke), “irawam (naked) I yatzaa (go out / come out) out of my am (mother) batan (womb), and irawam (naked) shall I shawab (turn back / repent) there. Yahawah () nathan (give), and Yahawah () has laqach (take / seize) away. Barak (blessed) be the sham (name) of Yahawah ().”

In all this, Ayawab (Job) did not chataa (sin), nor nathan (give) Alahayam () with wrongdoing.
