Job 7 — English–Hebrew Parallel

“Isn't a anawash (man) forced to labor on aratz (Earth/land)? Aren't his yamay (days) like the yamay (days) of a shakayar (hired) hand?

As a ibad (servant) who earnestly shaap (desires) the tzal (shadow), as a shakayar (hireling) who qawah (gather/wait) for his wages,

So am I nachal (made) to possess yarachay (months) of misery, imal (wearisome) layalawath (nights) are manah (appointed) to me.

When I shakab (lie) down, I amar (said), ‘When shall I qawam (rise up), and the irab (evening) be madad (gone)?’ I toss and nadad (turn) until the dawning of the nashap (day).

My bashar (flesh) is labash (clothed) with ramah (worms) and gawash (clods) of ipar (dust). My iwar (skin) closes up, and ragai (breaks) out afresh.

My yawam (day) are qalal (swifter) than a arag (weaver's) shuttle, and are kalah (complete / finish) apas (without) thaqawah (hope).

Oh zakar (remember) that my chay (life) is a rawach (spirit / wind). My iyan (eye) shall no more raah (see / saw) tawab (good / proper function).

The iyan (eye) of him who shawar (sees) me shall shawar (see) me no more. Your iyan (eye) shall be on me, but I shall not be.

As the inan (cloud) is kalah (complete / finish) and vanishes yalak (away), so he who yarad (goes) down to shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) shall ilah (go up / offer) up no more.

He shall shawab (turn) no more to his bayath (house), neither shall his maqawam (place) nakar (know) him any more.

“Therefore I will not chashak (darkness) silent. I will dabar (word / matter) in the tzar (oppressor / distressor) of my rawach (spirit / wind). I will shayach (meditate) in the bitterness of my napash (soul).

Am I a yam (sea/waters), or a thanayan (sea) monster, that you shawam (place / establish / appoint) a mashamar (guard) over me?

When I amar (said), ‘My irash (bed) shall nacham (turn away / repent) me. My mashakab (couch) shall nashaa (lift) my shayach (complaint);’

Then you chathath (scare) me with chalamawath (dreams), and baith (terrify) me through chazayanawath (visions):

So that my napash (soul) bachar (chooses) machanaq (strangling), mawath (death) rather than my itzam (bones).

I maas (loathe) my chayah (life). I don't want to live iwalam (eternity). Leave me chadal (alone), for my yawam (day) are but a habal (breath).

What is anawash (man), that you should gadal (magnify) him, that you should shayath (put / appoint / make) your lab (heart) on him,

That you should paqad (visit) him every baqar (morning), and test him every ragai (in an instance)?

Mah (how) long will you not shaih (look) away from me, nor leave me rapah (alone) until I balai (swallow) down my spittle?

If I have chataa (sinned), what pail (do) I do to you, you natzar (watcher) of adam (men)? Why have you shawam (place / establish / appoint) me as a mapagai (mark) for you, so that I am a mashaa (burden) to myself?

Why do you not nashaa (lift) my disobedience, and ibar (pass over/through) away my iwan (guilt/iniquity)? For now shall I shakab (lie) down in the ipar (dust). You will shachar (seek) me diligently, but I shall not be.”
