Psalms 35 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Rayab (contend), Yahawah (), with those who rayab (contend) with me. Lacham (fight) against those who lacham (fight) against me.

Chazaq (take) hold of magan (shield) and tzanah (buckler), and qawam (rise up) up for my izarah (help).

Brandish the chanayath (spear) and block those who radap (pursue) me. Amar (said) my napash (soul), “I am your yashawaih (salvation).”

Let those who baqash (seek) after my napash (soul) be disappointed and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be sawag (turned) achawar (back) and chapar (confounded).

Let them be as matz (chaff) panayam (face) the rawach (spirit / wind), Yahawah () malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) dachah (driving) them on.

Let their darak (way) be chashak (darkness) and chalaqalaqah (slippery), Yahawah () malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) radap (pursuing) them.

For chanam (without) cause they have taman (hidden) their rashath (net) in a shachath (pit) for me. Chanam (without) cause they have chapar (dug) a pit for my napash (soul).

Let shawaa (vanity) bawaa (bring) on him yadai (unawares). Let his rashath (net) that he has taman (hidden) lakad (catch) himself. Napal (fall / be cast down) him fall into that shawaa (vanity).

My napash (soul) shall be gayal (joyful) in Yahawah (). It shall shawash (rejoice) in his yashawaih (salvation).

All my itzam (bones) shall amar (spoke), “Yahawah (), who is like you, who natzal (delivers) the inay (poor) from him who is too chazaq (strong) for him; yes, the inay (poor) and the inay (needy) from him who gazal (robs) him?”

Chamas (unrighteous) witnesses qawam (rise up) up. They shaal (ask) me about things that I don't yadai (know) about.

They shalam (reward) me rai (evil) for tawab (good / proper function), to the bereaving of my napash (soul).

But as for me, when they were chalah (afflict), my labawash (clothing) was sackcloth. I inah (answer / respond) my napash (soul) with tzawam (fasting). My thapalah (prayer) shawab (turn) into my own chayaq (bosom).

I halak (move) myself as though it had been my rai (neigbor/another person) or my ach (brother/kinsman). I shachach (bowed) down qadar (mourning), as one who abal (mourns) his am (mother).

But in my tzalai (adversity), they shamach (rejoiced), and asap (gathered) themselves together. The attackers asap (gathered) themselves together against me, and I didn't yadai (know) it. They qarai (tore) at me, and didn't damam (cease).

Like the profane laigay (mockers) in maiwag (feasts), they charaq (gnashed) their shan (teeth) at me.

Adanay (), how long will you raah (see) on? Shawab (turn back / repent) my napash (soul) from their shawaa (vanity), my precious life from the kapayarayam (lions).

I will give you yadah (thanks) in the rab (great) qahal (assembly). I will halal (praise) you among many im (nation / people).

Don't let those who are my ayab (enemy) shaqar (wrongfully) shamach (rejoice) over me; neither let those who shanaa (hate) me chanam (without) a cause qaratz (wink) their iyan (eye).

For they don't dabar (word / matter) shalawam (peace / safety), but they chashab (devise) deceitful dabaray (words) against those who are ragai (quiet) in the aratz (Earth/land).

Yes, they opened their pah (mouth) rachab (wide) amar (said) me. They said, “haach (aha)! Haach (aha)! Our iyan (eye) raah (see / saw) seen it!”

You raah (see) seen it, Yahawah (). Don't charash (keep) silent. Adawan (), don't be rachaq (far) from me.

Qawatz (wake) up! Mashapat (rise) up to defend me, my Alahayam ()! My Adanay (), rayab (contend) for me!

Vindicate me, Yahawah () my Alahayam (), according to your tzadaq (righteous / just / fair). Don't let them gloat over me.

Don't let them amar (said) in their lab (heart), “haach (aha)! That's the napash (soul) we want it!” Don't let them amar (said), “We have balai (swallowed) him up!”

Let them be disappointed and bawash (confounded) yachad (together) who shamach (rejoice) at my rai (calamity). Let them be labash (clothed) with bashath (shame) and dishonor who gadal (magnify) themselves against me.

Let them ranan (shout) for joy and be shamach (glad), who favor my tzadaq (righteous / just / fair) cause. Yes, let them amar (spoke) continually, “Yahawah () be gadal (magnified), who chapatz (has) pleasure in the prosperity of his ibad (servant)!”

My lashawan (tongue / language) shall hagah (talk) about your tzadaq (righteous / just / fair) and about your thahalah (praise) all yawam (day) long.
