Proverbs 21 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 The malak (king) lab (heart) is in Yahawah () yad (hand) like the watercourses. He natah (turns) it wherever he chapatz (desires).

2 Every darak (way) of a ayash (man / husband) is yashar (upright) in his own iyan (eye), but Yahawah () thakan (weighs) the labawath (hearts).

3 To ishah (make) tzadaqah (righteousness) and tzadaqah (righteousness) is more bachar (acceptable) to Yahawah () than zabach (sacrifice).

4 A rawam (will lift up) iyan (eye), and a rachab (proud) lab (heart), the nayar (lamp) of the rashai (wicked), is chataah (sin).

5 The plans of the charawatz (diligent) surely lead to mawathar (profit); and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to machasawar (poverty).

6 Pail (getting) awatzarawath (treasures) by a shaqar (lying) lashawan (tongue / language) is a fleeting vapor for those who baqash (seek) mawath (death).

7 The violence of the rashai (wicked) will drive them away, because they maan (refuse) to ishah (make) what is mashapat (right).

8 The darak (way) of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is yashar (upright).

9 It is tawab (good / proper function) to yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the panah (turn) of the housetop, than to share a bayath (house) with a madayan (contentious) ayashah (woman / wife).

10 The napash (soul) of the rashai (wicked) awah (desires) rai (evil); his neighbor finds no chanan (showing favor) in his iyan (eye).

11 When the lawatz (mocker) is inash (punished), the pathay (simple) gains chakam (wisdom). When the chakam (wise) is shakal (instructed), he laqach (take / seize) daith (knowledge).

12 The tzadayaq (righteous) One shakal (considers) the bayath (house) of the rashai (wicked), and brings the rashai (wicked) to ruin.

13 Whoever atam (stops) his azan (ear) at the zaiq (cry) of the dal (poor), he will also qaraa (called) out, but shall not be inah (answer / respond).

14 A mathan (gift) in sathar (secret / hidden) kapah (pacifies) ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting); and a shachad (bribe) in the cloak, iz (strong) chamah (wrath).

15 It is shamachah (joy) to the tzadayaq (righteous) to ishah (make) mashapat (justice); but it is a machathah (destruction) to the pailay (workers) of awan (iniquity).

16 The adam (man) who thaih (wanders) out of the darak (way) of shakal (understanding) shall nawach (rest) in the qahal (assembly) of the rapaa (dead).

17 He who ahab (love) shamachah (pleasure) shall be a machasawar (poor) ayash (man / husband). He who ahab (love) yayan (wine) and shaman (oil) shall not be ishar (rich).

18 The rashai (wicked) is a kapar (ransom) for the tzadayaq (righteous); the bagad (treacherous) for the tzadayaq (righteous).

19 It is tawab (good / proper function) to yashab (inhabit/dwell) in a desert land, than with a madawan (contentious) and fretful ayashah (woman / wife).

20 There is chamad (precious) awatzar (treasure) and shaman (oil) in the nawah (habitation) of the chakam (wise); but a kasayal (foolish) adam (man) balai (swallows) it up.

21 He who radap (follows) after tzadaqah (righteousness) and chasad (grace) matzaa (finds) chay (life), tzadaqah (righteousness), and honor.

22 A chakam (wise) man ilah (go up / offer) the iyar (city) of the gabawar (mighty), and yarad (brings) down the iz (strength / might / refuge) of its mabatach (confidence).

23 Whoever guards his pah (mouth) and his lashawan (tongue / language) shamar (keep/guard) his napash (soul) from tzarawath (troubles).

24 The zad (proud) and haughty man, “scoffer” is his sham (name); he ishah (make) in the arrogance of zadawan (pride).

25 The thaawah (desire) of the itzal (sluggard) mawath (death) him, for his yad (hand) maan (refuse) to ishah (make).

26 There are those who awah (covet) thaawah (greedily) all yawam (day) long; but the tzadayaq (righteous) nathan (give) and don't chashak (darkness).

27 The zabach (sacrifice) of the rashai (wicked) is an thawaibah (abomination): how much more, when he bawaa (bring) it with a zamah (wicked) mind!

28 A kazab (false) id (until / as far as) will abad (destroy / perish), and a ayash (man / husband) who shamai (hearken / hear) dabar (word / matter) to eternity.

29 A rashai (wicked) ayash (man / husband) izaz (hardens) his panayam (face); but as for the yashar (upright), he establishes his darak (ways).

30 There is no chakamah (wisdom) nor thabawan (understanding) nor itzah (counsel) against Yahawah ().

31 The sawas (horse) is kawan (prepared) for the yawam (day) of malachamah (battle); but thashawaih (deliverance) is with Yahawah ().
