Proverbs 4 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Shamai (hearken / hear), banayam (sons), to a ab (father) mawasar (instruction). Pay attention and yadai (know) bayanah (understanding);

For I nathan (give) you sound laqach (learning). Don't izab (forsake) my thawarah (Torah / Instruction).

For I was a ban (son) to my ab (father), rak (tender) and an only child in the panayam (face) of my am (mother).

He yarah (taught) me, and amar (said) to me: “Let your lab (heart) thamak (retain) my dabar (word / matter). Shamar (keep/guard) my matzawah (commandments), and chayah (live).

Qanah (get) chakamah (wisdom). Qanah (get) bayanah (understanding). Don't shakach (forget), neither swerve from the amaray (Amaray / Amorite) of my pah (mouth).

Don't izab (forsake) her, and she will shamar (keep/guard) you. Ahab (love) her, and she will natzar (keep) you.

Chakamah (wisdom) is supreme. Qanah (get) chakamah (wisdom). Yes, though it costs all your qanayan (possessions), get bayanah (understanding).

Esteem her, and she will salal (exalt) you. She will kabad (bring) you to honor, when you chabaq (embrace) her.

She will nathan (give) to your raash (head) a garland of chan (favor). She will magan (deliver) a itarah (crown) of splendor to you.”

Shamai (hearken / hear), my ban (son), and laqach (take / seize) my amar (said). The shanawath (years) of your chay (life) will be many.

I have yarah (taught) you in the darak (way) of chakamah (wisdom). I have darak (led) you in yashar (upright) maigalay (paths).

When you yalak (go), your tzaid (steps) will not be hampered. When you rawatz (run), you will not kashal (stumble / stagger).

Chazaq (take) firm hold of mawasar (instruction). Don't rapah (let) her go. Natzar (keep) her, for she is your chay (life).

Don't bawaa (bring) into the arach (path) of the rashai (wicked). Don't walk in the darak (way) of rai (evil) men.

Parai (avoid) it, and don't ibar (pass over/through) by it. Shatah (turn) from it, and ibar (pass over/through) on.

For they don't sleep, unless they do raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil). Their shanah (sleep) is gazal (taken) away, unless they kashal (stumble / stagger) someone fall.

For they lacham (eat) the lacham (bread) of rashai (wickedness), and shathah (drinks) the yayan (wine) of chamas (violence).

But the arach (path) of the tzadayaq (righteous) is like the dawning awar (light), that awar (light) more and more until the kawan (perfect) yawam (day).

The darak (way) of the rashai (wicked) is like apalah (darkness). They don't yadai (know) what they kashal (stumble / stagger) over.

My ban (son), qashab (attend) to my dabar (word / matter). Natah (turn) your azan (ear) to my amar (said).

Let them not depart from your iyan (eye). Shamar (keep/guard) them in the thawak (midst) of your thawak (midst).

For they are chay (life) to those who matzaa (find) them, and marapaa (health) to their whole bashar (flesh).

Natzar (keep) your lab (heart) with all mashamar (diligence), for out of it is the wellspring of chay (life).

Sawar (put) away from yourself a perverse pah (mouth). Put corrupt shapathayam (lips) rachaq (far) from you.

Let your iyan (eye) nabat (look) nakach (straight) ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you.

Make the maigal (path) of your ragal (feet / foot) level. Let all of your darak (ways) be kawan (established).

Don't natah (turn) to the right yamayan (right hand) nor to the shamaawal (left hand). Sawar (remove) your ragal (feet / foot) from rai (evil).
