Ecclesiastes 9 — English–Hebrew Parallel

For all this I nathan (give) to my lab (heart), even to explore all this: that the tzadayaq (righteous), and the chakam (wise), and their ibad (servant), are in the yad (hand) of Alahayam (); whether it is ahabah (love) or hatred, adam (man) doesn't yadai (know) it; all is panayam (face) them.

All things come achad (one) to all. There is one maqarah (event) to the tzadayaq (righteous) and to the rashai (wicked); to the tawab (good / proper function), to the tahawar (clean), to the tamaa (unclean), to him who zabach (sacrifices), and to him who doesn't zabach (sacrifice). As is the tawab (good / proper function), so is the chataa (sinner); he who shabai (swear / take oath) an oath, as he who yaraa (fear / be afraid) an shabawaih (oath).

This is an rai (evil) in all that is ishah (make) under the shamash (sun), that there is achad (one) maqarah (event) to all: yes also, the lab (heart) of the banay (my son) of adam (men) is malaa (full) of rai (evil), and hawalalah (madness) is in their labab (heart) while they chay (life), and achar (other) that they go to the mawath (death).

For to him who is bachar (joined) with all the chay (life) there is batachawan (hope); for a chay (life) kalab (dog) is tawab (good / proper function) than a mawath (death) aray (lion).

For the chay (life) yadai (know) that they will mawath (death), but the mawath (death) don't yadai (know) anything, neither do they have any more a shakar (reward); for their zakar (remember) is shakach (forgotten).

Also their ahabah (love), their hatred, and their qanaah (envy) abad (destroy / perish) perished long ago; neither have they any more a chalaq (portion) iwalam (eternity) in anything that is ishah (make) under the shamash (sun).

Go your yalak (way) — akal (eat) your lacham (bread) with shamachah (joy), and shathah (drinks) your yayan (wine) with a tawab (good / proper function) lab (heart); for Alahayam () has kabar (already) ratzah (accepted) your maishah (works).

Let your bagad (garments) be ith (always) laban (white), and don't let your raash (head) chasar (lack) shaman (oil).

Chay (life) raah (see / saw) with the ayashah (woman / wife) whom you ahab (love) all the yamay (days) of your chay (life) of habal (vanity), which he nathan (give) given you under the shamash (sun), all your yamay (days) of habal (vanity): for that is your chalaq (portion) in chay (life), and in your imal (labor) in which you imal (labor) under the shamash (sun).

Whatever your yad (hand) matzaa (finds) to ishah (make), ishah (make) it with your kach (strength / mighty / power); for there is no maishah (work), nor chashabawan (device), nor daith (knowledge), nor chakamah (wisdom), in shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), where you are halak (move).

I shawab (turn), and raah (see / saw) under the shamash (sun), that the marawatz (race) is not to the qal (swift), nor the malachamah (battle) to the gabawar (strong), neither yet lacham (bread) to the chakam (wise), nor yet riches to men of bayan (between), nor yet favor to yadaiyam (men) of skill; but ith (time) and pagai (chance) qarah (happen) to them all.

For adam (man) also doesn't yadai (know) his ith (time). As the dag (fish) that are achaz (taken) in an rai (evil) matzawad (net), and as the tzaparayam (birds) that are achaz (caught) in the pach (snare / trap), even so are the banay (my son) of adam (men) yaqash (snared) in an rai (evil) ith (time), when it napal (fall / be cast down) pathaawam (suddenly) on them.

I raah (see / saw) also seen chakamah (wisdom) under the shamash (sun) in zah (this / that / these) way, and it seemed gadawal (very great/important/mighty) to me.

There was a qatan (small / young / least) iyar (city), and mait (few) anashayam (men) within it; and a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) malak (king) bawaa (bring) against it, sabab (besieged) it, and banah (build) gadawal (very great/important/mighty) matzawadayam (bulwarks) against it.

Now a masakan (poor) chakam (wise) ayash (man / husband) was matzaa (found) in it, and he by his chakam (wisdom) malat (delivered) the iyar (city); yet no adam (man) zakar (remember) that same masakan (poor) adam (man).

Then I amar (said), “chakamah (wisdom) is tawab (good / proper function) than gabawarah (strength).” Nevertheless the masakan (poor) man's chakamah (wisdom) is bazah (despised), and his dabar (word / matter) are not shamai (hearken / hear).

The dabaray (words) of the chakam (wise) shamai (hearken / hear) in nachath (quiet) are better than the zaiq (cry) of him who mashal (rule/have dominion) among kasayalayam (fools).

Chakamah (wisdom) is tawab (good / proper function) than kalay (weapons) of qarab (war); but achad (one) chataa (sinner) abad (destroy / perish) much tawab (good / proper function).
