Isaiah 1 — English–Hebrew Parallel

The chazawan (vision) of Yashaiyah (Isaiah) the ban (son) of Amawatz (Amoz), which he chazah (saw) concerning Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) and Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), in the yamay (days) of Izayah (Uzziah), Yawatham (Jotham), Achaz (Ahaz), and Chazaqayah (Hezekiah), malakay (kings) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah).

Shamai (hearken / hear), shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens), and listen, aratz (Earth/land); for Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter): “I have gadal (nourished) and rawam (will lift up) up banayam (children), and they have pashai (rebelled) against me.

The shawar (ox) yadai (knows) his owner, and the donkey his bail (master's) abawas (crib); but Yashar-Al (Israel) doesn't yadai (know), my im (nation / people) don't bayan (between).”

Haway (Alas/Woe!) Sinful gaway (heathen / nation), a im (nation / people) loaded with iwan (guilt/iniquity), a zarai (seed) of evildoers, zarai (children) who deal corruptly! They have forsaken Yahawah (). They have naatz (despised) the qadawash (holy) One of Yashar-Al (Israel). They are zawar (estranged) and backward.

Why should you be nakah (beaten) more, that you sarah (revolt) more and more? The whole raash (head) is chalay (sick), and the whole labab (heart) daway (faint).

From the kap (sole) of the ragal (feet / foot) even to the raash (head) there is no matham (soundness) in it: patzai (wounds), welts, and open makah (sores). They haven't been zawar (closed), neither bandaged, neither soothed with shaman (oil).

Your aratz (Earth/land) is shamamah (desolate). Your iyar (cities) are sharap (burned) with ash (fire). Strangers akal (eat) your adamah (land) in your presence, and it is shamamah (desolate), as mahapakah (overthrown) by strangers.

The banath (daughter) of Tzayawan (Zion) is yathar (left) like a shelter in a karam (vineyard), like a hut in a field of melons, like a natzar (besieged) iyar (city).

Lawalaa (unless) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) had yathar (left) to us a very mait (small) sharayad (remnant), we would hayah (came to pass) been as Sadam (Sodom); we would have been damah (like) Imarah (Gomorrah).

Shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), you qatzayanay (rulers) of Sadam (Sodom)! Listen to the thawarah (instruction) of our Alahayam (), you im (nation / people) of Imarah (Gomorrah)!

“Mah (what) are the rab (multitude) of your zabach (sacrifices) to me?”, amar (spoke) Yahawah (). “I shabai (have) had enough of the burnt ilawath (offerings) of ayalayam (rams), and the chalab (fat) of fed animals. I don't chapatz (delight) in the dam (blood) of parayam (bulls), or of kabashayam (lambs), or of male ithawadayam (goats).

When you bawaa (bring) to raah (see / saw) panayam (face) me, who has baqash (required) this at your yad (hand), to ramas (trample) my chatzar (courts)?

Bawaa (bring) no more shawaa (vanity) manachah (offerings). Qatarath (incense) is an thawaibah (abomination) to me; new chadash (month), shabath (shabath / rest), and maqaraa (convocations): I can't bear with awan (evil) maqaraa (assemblies).

My napash (soul) shanaa (hate) your New chadash (month) and your mawaid (Feast/Holy Day) feasts. They are a burden to me. I am laah (weary) of nashaa (lift) them.

When you parash (spread) forth your kap (hands), I will ilam (hide) my iyan (eye) from you. Yes, when you rabah (make) many thapalah (prayers), I will not shamai (hearken / hear). Your yad (hand) are malaa (full) of dam (blood).

Rachatz (wash) yourselves, make yourself zakah (clean). Sawar (put) away the rai (evil) of your mailal (doings) from before my iyan (eye). Chadal (cease) to do raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil).

Lamad (teach / instruct) to yatab (do) well. Darash (seek) mashapat (justice). Ashar (who/that) the chamawatz (oppressed). Shapat (judge / judgement) the yathawam (fatherless). Rayab (plead) for the alamanah (widow).”

“Yalak (come) now, and let us yakach (reason) together,” amar (spoke) Yahawah (): “Though your chataa (sins) be as shanay (second), they shall be as laban (white) as shalag (snow). Though they be adam (red) like thawalai (crimson), they shall be as tzamar (wool).

If you are abah (be willing / desire) and shamai (hearken / hear), you shall akal (eat) the tawab (good / proper function) of the aratz (Earth/land);

But if you maan (refuse) and marah (rebel), you shall be akal (eat) with the charab (sword); for the pah (mouth) of Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter) it.”

How the aman (believe / have faith) qarayah (city / town) has become a prostitute! She was full of mashapat (justice); tzadaq (righteous / just / fair) lawan (lodged) in her, but now maratzachayam (murderers).

Your kasap (silver) has become sayag (dross), your sabaa (wine) mahal (mixed) with mayam (Waters).

Your shar (prince / ruler) are sarar (rebellious), and chabaray (companions) of thieves. Everyone ahab (love) shachad (bribes), and radap (follows) after shalamanayam (rewards). They don't shapat (judge / judgement) the yathawam (fatherless), neither does the rayab (cause) of the alamanah (widow) bawaa (bring) to them.

Therefore the Adawan (), Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), the abayar (mighty) One of Yashar-Al (Israel), naam (declares prophetically): “haway (Alas/Woe!), I will get relief from my tzar (oppressor / distressor), and naqam (avenge) myself of my ayab (enemy);

And I will shawab (turn) my yad (hand) on you, thoroughly tzarap (purge) away your sayag (dross), and will sawar (take) away all your badayal (divide).

I will shawab (turn) your shapat (judge / judgement) as at the raashawan (first), and your yaitz (counselors) as at the thachalah (beginning). Afterward you shall be qaraa (called) ‘The iyar (city) of tzadaq (righteous / just / fair), a aman (believe / have faith) town.’

Tzayawan (Zion) shall be padah (redeemed) with mashapat (justice), and her shawab (turn) with tzadaqah (righteousness).

But the shabar (destruction) of transgressors and chataayam (sinners) shall be yachad (together), and those who izab (forsake) Yahawah () shall be kalah (complete / finish).

For they shall be bawash (ashamed) of the ayalayam (oaks) which you have chamad (desired), and you shall be chapar (confounded) for the ganawath (gardens) that you have bachar (chosen).

For you shall be as an alah (these) whose ilah (leaf) nabal (fades), and as a ganah (garden) that has no mayam (Waters).

The chasan (strong) will be like tinder, and his pail (work) like a nayatzawatz (spark). They will shanayam (two) bair (burn) yachad (together), and no one will kabah (quench) them.”
