Isaiah 37 — English–Hebrew Parallel

It happened, when malak (king) Chazaqayah (Hezekiah) shamai (hearken / hear) it, that he qarai (tore) his clothes, kasah (covered) himself with sackcloth, and bawaa (come) into Yahawah () bayath (house).

He shalach (send) Alayaqayam (Eliakim), who was over the bayath (house), and Shabanaa (Shebna) the sapar (book), and the zaqanay (elders) of the kahanayam (priests), kasah (covered) with sackcloth, to Yashaiyah (Isaiah) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), the ban (son) of Amawatz (Amoz).

They amar (said) to him, “Thus yaamaraw (says) Chazaqayah (Hezekiah), ‘This yawam (day) is a yawam (day) of tzarah (trouble), and of thawakachah (rebuke), and of rejection; for the banayam (children) bawaa (bring) come to the mashabar (birth), and there is no kach (strength / mighty / power) to yalad (birth / begot) forth.

It may be Yahawah () your Alahayam () will shamai (hearken / hear) the dabaray (words) of Rabashaqah (Rabshakeh), whom the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) his adawan (master / lord) has shalach (send) to charap (defy) the chay (life) Alahayam (), and will yakach (rebuke) the dabaray (words) which Yahawah () your Alahayam () has shamai (hearken / hear). Therefore nashaa (lift) up your thapalah (prayer) for the shaarayath (remnant) that is matzaa (left).’”

So the ibaday (servant of) of malak (king) Chazaqayah (Hezekiah) bawaa (bring) to Yashaiyah (Isaiah).

Yashaiyah (Isaiah) amar (spoke) to them, “amar (spoke) your adawan (master / lord), ‘Thus thaamaraw (says) Yahawah (), “Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid) of the dabarayam (words) that you have shamai (hearken / hear), with which the nairay (servants) of the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) have gadap (blasphemed) me.

Behold, I will nathan (give) a rawach (spirit / wind) in him and he will shamai (hearken / hear) shamawaih (news), and will shawab (turn) to his own aratz (Earth/land). I will napal (fall / be cast down) him to fall by the charab (sword) in his own aratz (Earth/land).”’”

So Rabashaqah (Rabshakeh) shawab (turn), and matzaa (found) the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) lacham (warring) against Labanah (Libnah), for he had shamai (hearken / hear) that he was departed from Lakayash (Lachish).

He shamai (hearken / hear) news concerning Tharahaqah (Tirhakah) malak (king) of Kawash (Ethiopia), “He yatzaa (go out / come out) come out to lacham (fight) against you.” When he shamai (hearken / hear) it, he shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to Chazaqayah (Hezekiah), amar (said),

“Thus you shall amar (spoke) to Chazaqayah (Hezekiah) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah), amar (spoke), ‘Don't let your Alahayam () in whom you batach (trust) nashaa (lift) you, amar (spoke), “Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) won't be nathan (give) into the yad (hand) of the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria).”

Behold, you have shamai (hearken / hear) what the malakay (kings) of Ashawar (Assyria) ishah (make) done to all aratzawath (lands), by charam (destroying) them utterly. Shall you be natzal (delivered)?

Have the Alahayam () of the gawayam (nations) natzal (delivered) them, which my ab (father) have shachath (destroyed), Gawazan (Gozan), Charan (Haran), Ratzap (Rezeph), and the banay (children) of Idan (Eden) who were in Thalaashar (Telassar)?

Where is the malak (king) of Chamath (Hamath), and the malak (king) of Arapad (Arpad), and the malak (king) of the iyar (city) of Saparawayam (Sepharvaim), of Hanai (Hena), and Iwah (Ivvah)?’”

Chazaqayah (Hezekiah) laqach (take / seize) the sapar (book / scribed document) from the yad (hand) of the malaakayam (messengers) and qaraa (called) it. Then Chazaqayah (Hezekiah) ilah (go up / offer) up to Yahawah () bayath (house), and parash (spread) it panayam (face) Yahawah ().

Chazaqayah (Hezekiah) palal (prayed) to Yahawah (), amar (spoke),

“Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), who is enthroned among the karawab (cherubim), you are the Alahayam (), even you alone, of all the mamalakawath (kingdoms) of the aratz (Earth/land). You ishah (make) made shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens) and aratz (Earth/land).

Natah (turn) your azan (ear), Yahawah (), and shamai (hearken / hear). Paqach (open) your iyan (eye), Yahawah (), and raah (see). Shamai (hearken / hear) all of the dabaray (words) of Sanacharayab (Sennacherib), who has shalach (send) to charap (defy) the chay (life) Alahayam ().

Truly, Yahawah (), the malakay (kings) of Ashawar (Assyria) have charab (destroyed) all the aratzawath (countries) and their aratz (Earth/land),

And nathan (give) cast their Alahayam () into the ash (fire); for they were no Alahayam (), but the maishah (work) of adam (men's) yaday (hands), itz (wood) and aban (stone); therefore they abad (destroy / perish) destroyed them.

Now therefore, Yahawah () our Alahayam (), yashai (salvation) us from his yad (hand), that all the mamalakawath (kingdoms) of the aratz (Earth/land) may yadai (know) that you are Yahawah (), even you only.”

Then Yashaiyah (Isaiah) the ban (son) of Amawatz (Amoz) shalach (send) to Chazaqayah (Hezekiah), amar (spoke), “Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), ‘Because you have palal (prayed) to me against Sanacharayab (Sennacherib) malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria),

This is the dabar (word / matter) which Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter) concerning him. The bathawalah (virgin) banath (daughter) of Tzayawan (Zion) has bazah (despised) you and ridiculed you. The banath (daughter) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) has nawai (shaken) her raash (head) at you.

Whom have you charap (defied) and gadap (blasphemed)? Against whom have you rawam (will lift up) your qawal (sound / voice) and nashaa (lift) up your iyan (eye) on marawam (high)? Against the qadawash (holy) One of Yashar-Al (Israel).

By your ibad (servant), have you charap (defied) the Adanay (), and have amar (spoke), “With the rab (multitude) of my rakab (chariots) I have ilah (go up / offer) up to the marawam (height) of the harayam (mountains), to the innermost yarakathay (parts) of Labanawan (Lebanon). I will karath (cut) down its qawamah (tall) araz (cedars) and its mabachar (choice) barawash (fir) trees. I will bawaa (come) into its farthest marawam (height), the yair (forest) of its Karamal (fruitful) field.

I have qawar (dug) and shathah (drinks) mayam (Waters), and with the kap (sole) of my paim (feet) I will charab (dry) up all the yaaray (rivers) of Matzawar (Egypt).”

“‘Have you not shamai (hearken / hear) how I ishah (make) done it rachawaq (long) ago, and yatzar (formed) it in qadam (ancient) yamay (times)? Now I bawaa (bring) brought it to pass, that it should be yours to shaah (destroy) batzar (fortified) irayam (cities), turning them into ruinous galayam (heaps).

Therefore their yashab (inhabit/dwell) had little yad (hand). They were chathath (dismayed) and bawash (confounded). They were like the ishab (grass) of the shadah (field), and like the yaraq (green) dashaa (herb), like the chatzayar (grass) on the housetops, and like a field panayam (face) its crop has qamah (grown).

But I yadai (know) your sitting down, your yatzaa (go out / come out) out, your bawaa (bring) in, and your ragaz (raging) against me.

Because of your ragaz (raging) against me, and because your arrogance has ilah (go up / offer) up into my azan (ear), therefore will I shawam (place / establish / appoint) my chach (hook) in your ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) and my mathag (bridle) in your shapah (lips), and I will shawab (turn) you back by the darak (way) by which you bawaa (bring).

“‘This shall be the awath (sign / mark / miracle) to you. You will akal (eat) this shanah (year) that which sapayach (grows) of itself, and in the shanay (second) shanah (year) that which springs from the same; and in the shalayashay (third) shanah (year) zarai (sow) and qatzar (reap) and natai (plant) karamayam (vineyards), and akal (eat) their paray (fruit).

The shaar (remnant) that is palayatah (escaped) of the bayath (house) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) will again take sharash (root) matah (downward), and ishah (make) paray (fruit) upward.

For out of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) a shaarayath (remnant) will yatzaa (go out / come out) forth, and survivors will palayatah (escape) from har (mountain) Tzayawan (Zion). The qanaah (zeal) of Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) will ishah (make) this.’

“Therefore thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () concerning the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria), ‘He will not bawaa (come) to this iyar (city), nor yarah (shoot) an chatz (arrow) there, neither will he qadam (come) before it with magan (shield), nor shapak (cast) up a mound against it.

By the darak (way) that he bawaa (come), by the same he shall shawab (turn back / repent), and he shall not bawaa (come) to this iyar (city),’ naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

‘For I will ganan (defend) this iyar (city) to yashai (salvation) it, for my own sake, and for my ibad (servant) Dawad (David's) sake.’”

The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () yatzaa (go out / come out) out and nakah (struck) one maah (hundred) and shamanayam (eighty) - chamash (five) alap (thousand) men in the machanah (camp) of the Ashawar (Assyrians). When men arose shakam (early) in the baqar (morning), behold, these were all mawath (death) pagarayam (bodies).

So Sanacharayab (Sennacherib) malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) departed, yalak (went) shawab (turn), returned to Nayanawah (Nineveh), and stayed there.

It happened, as he was shachah (worshipping) in the bayath (house) of Nasarak (Nisroch) his Alahayam (), that Adaramalak (Adrammelech) and Sharaatzar (Sharezer) his ban (son) nakah (struck) him with the charab (sword); and they malat (escaped) into the aratz (Earth/land) of Ararat (Ararat). Asarachadawan (Esar Haddon) his ban (son) malak (king) in his place.
