Jeremiah 17 — English–Hebrew Parallel

“The chataah (sin) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) is kathab (write) with a it (pen) of barazal (iron), and with the tzaparan (point) of a shamayar (diamond): it is engraved on the tablet of their lab (heart), and on the qaranawath (horns) of your mazabach (altars);

While their ban (son) zakar (remember) their mazabach (altars) and their Asharah (Asherim) by the rainan (green) itz (trees) on the gabah (high) gabaiwath (hills).

My harar (mountain) in the shadah (field), I will nathan (give) your chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor) and all your awatzar (treasures) for a baz (spoil), and your bamah (high) places, because of chataah (sin), throughout all your gabawal (border/boundary).

You, even of yourself, shall shamat (discontinue) from your nachalah (heritage) that I nathan (give) you; and I will cause you to ibad (servant) your ayab (enemy) in the aratz (Earth/land) which you don't yadai (know): for you have qadach (kindled) a ash (fire) in my ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) which shall yaqad (burn) iwalam (eternity).”

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (): “arar (cursed) is the gabar (man) who batach (trusts) in adam (man), and shawam (place / establish / appoint) bashar (flesh) his zarawai (arm), and whose lab (heart) sawar (departs) from Yahawah ().

For he shall be like the heath in the irabah (desert), and shall not raah (see / saw) when tawab (good / proper function) bawaa (bring), but shall shakan (place) the charar (parched) places in the madabar (wilderness), a malachah (salt) aratz (Earth/land) and not yashab (inhabit/dwell).

“Barak (blessed) is the gabar (man) who batach (trusts) in Yahawah (), and whose mabatach (trust) Yahawah () is.

For he shall be as a itz (tree) shathal (planted) by the mayam (Waters), who shalach (send) out its sharash (roots) by the yawabal (river), and shall not yaraa (fear / be afraid) when cham (heat) bawaa (bring), but its ilah (leaf) shall be rainan (green); and shall not be daag (careful) in the shanah (year) of batzarath (drought), neither shall mawash (cease) from ishah (make) paray (fruit).

The lab (heart) is iqab (deceitful) above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who yadai (can) know it?

“I, Yahawah (), chaqar (search) the lab (heart), I bachan (try) the lab (heart), even to nathan (give) every ayash (man / husband) according to his darak (ways), according to the paray (fruit) of his mailal (doings).”

As the qaraa (called) that dagar (sits) on eggs which she has not laid, so is he who ishah (make) riches, and not by mashapat (right); in the chatzay (midst) of his yawam (day) they shall izab (leave) him, and at his acharayath (end) he shall be a nabal (fool).

A kabawad (glorious) kasaa (throne), set on marawam (high) from the raashawan (beginning), is the maqawam (place) of our maqadash (sanctuary).

Yahawah (), the maqawah (gathering / collection) of Yashar-Al (Israel), all who izab (forsake) you shall be disappointed. Those who depart from me shall be kathab (write) in the aratz (Earth/land), because they have forsaken Yahawah (), the maqawar (spring) of chay (life) mayam (Waters).

Rapaa (heal) me, O Yahawah (), and I shall be rapaa (healed); yashai (salvation) me, and I shall be yashai (salvation): for you are my thahalah (praise).

Behold, they amar (spoke) me, “Where is the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah ()? Bawaa (come) it come now.”

As for me, I have not hurried from being a raih (shepherd) achar (other) you; neither have I awah (desired) the anash (woeful) yawam (day); you yadai (know): that which mawatzaa (came) out of my shapah (lips) was nakach (before) your panayam (face).

Don't be a machathah (terror) to me: you are my machasah (refuge) in the yawam (day) of rai (evil).

Let them be disappointed who radap (persecute) me, but let not me be disappointed; let them be chathath (dismayed), but don't let me be chathath (dismayed); bawaa (bring) on them the yawam (day) of rai (evil), and shabar (destroy) them with mashanah (double) shabarawan (destruction).

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () to me: “halak (move), and imad (stand) in the shair (gate) of the banay (children) of the im (nation / people), through which the malakay (kings) of Yahawadah (Judah) bawaa (come) in, and by which they yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and in all the shairay (gates) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem);

And amar (spoke) them, ‘shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), you malakay (kings) of Yahawadah (Judah), and all Yahawadah (Judah), and all the yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), that bawaa (come) in by these shairayam (gates):

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), “shamar (keep/guard) heed to yourselves, and nashaa (lift) no mashaa (burden) on the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day), nor bawaa (come) it in by the shairay (gates) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem);

Neither yatzaa (go out / come out) forth a mashaa (burden) out of your bayath (house) on the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day) qadash (set apart / make holy), neither ishah (make) any malaakah (work): but make the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day), as I tzawah (commanded) your ab (father).

But they didn't listen, neither natah (turn) their azan (ear), but made their irap (neck) qashah (rough / hard), that they might not shamai (hearken / hear), and might not laqach (take / seize) mawasar (instruction).

It shall happen, if you shamai (hearken / hear) shamai (hearken / hear) to me,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “to bawaa (come) in no mashaa (burden) through the shairay (gates) of this iyar (city) on the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day), but to make the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day) qadash (set apart / make holy), to ishah (make) no malaakah (work) therein;

Then shall there bawaa (bring) in by the shairay (gates) of this iyar (city) malakayam (kings) and sharayam (princes) sitting on the kasaa (throne) of Dawad (David), rakab (riding) in rakab (chariots) and on sawasayam (horses), they, and their sharayam (princes), the ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and the yashabayam (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem); and this iyar (city) shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) iwalam (eternity).

They shall bawaa (come) from the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Judah), and from the sabayabawath (places) around Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and from the aratz (Earth/land) of Banayamayan (Benjamin), and from the lowland, and from the har (mountain) country, and from the nagab (south), bawaa (come) burnt ilah (offerings), and zabach (sacrifices), and meal manachah (offerings), and labawanah (frankincense), and bawaa (come) thawadah (sacrifices) of thanksgiving, to the bayath (house) of Yahawah ().

But if you will not shamai (hearken / hear) to me to make the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day) qadash (set apart / make holy), and not to nashaa (lift) a mashaa (burden) and bawaa (bring) in at the shairay (gates) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) on the shabath (shabath / rest) yawam (day); then will I yatzath (kindle) a ash (fire) in its shairay (gates), and it shall akal (eat) the aramanawath (palaces) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), and it shall not be kabah (quenched).”’”
