Jeremiah 20 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Now Pashachawar (Pashhur), the ban (son) of Amar (Immer) the kahan (priest), who paqayad (was) chief officer in the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), shamai (hearken / hear) Yaramayah (Jeremiah) nabaa (prophesying) these things.

Then Pashachawar (Pashhur) nakah (struck) Yaramayah (Jeremiah) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and nathan (give) him in the mahapakath (stocks) that were in the ilayawan (Ilayawan) shair (gate) of Banayamayan (Benjamin), which was in the bayath (house) of Yahawah ().

It happened on the next macharath (day), that Pashachawar (Pashhur) yatzaa (go out / come out) forth Yaramayah (Jeremiah) out of the mahapakath (stocks). Then Yaramayah (Jeremiah) amar (spoke) to him, “Yahawah () has not qaraa (called) your sham (name) Pashachawar (Pashhur), but magawaramasabayab (magormissabib).

For thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘Behold, I will nathan (give) you a magawar (terror) to yourself, and to all your ahab (love); and they shall napal (fall / be cast down) by the charab (sword) of their ayab (enemy), and your iyan (eye) shall raah (see) it; and I will nathan (give) all Yahawadah (Judah) into the yad (hand) of the malak (king) of Babal (Babylon), and he shall galah (carry) them captive to Babal (Babylon), and shall nakah (kill) them with the charab (sword).

Moreover I will nathan (give) all the riches of this iyar (city), and all its gains, and all the yaqar (precious) things of it, yes, all the awatzarawath (treasures) of the malakay (kings) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) will I nathan (give) into the yad (hand) of their ayab (enemy); and they shall make them a bazaz (prey), and laqach (take / seize) them, and bawaa (bring) them to Babal (Babylon).

You, Pashachawar (Pashhur), and all who yashab (inhabit/dwell) in your bayath (house) shall yalak (go) into shabay (captivity); and you shall bawaa (bring) to Babal (Babylon), and there you shall mawath (death), and there you shall be qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher), you, and all your ahab (love), to whom you have nabaa (prophesied) falsely.’”

Yahawah (), you have pathah (persuaded) me, and I was pathah (persuaded); you are chazaq (stronger) than I, and yakal (have) prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the yawam (day), every one laig (mocks) me.

For as often as I dabar (word / matter), I qaraa (called) out; I qaraa (called), “chamas (violence) and destruction!” Because the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () is made a charapah (reproach) to me, and a qalas (derision), all the yawam (day).

If I amar (said), I will not zakar (remember) mention of him, nor dabar (word / matter) any more in his sham (name), then there is in my lab (heart) as it were a bair (burning) ash (fire) itzar (shut) up in my itzam (bones), and I am laah (weary) with kawal (all), and I can't.

For I have shamai (hearken / hear) the dabah (defaming) of many, “magawar (terror) on sabayab (surrounding) side. Nagad (denounce), and we will nagad (denounce) him,” say all my familiar friends, those who shamar (keep/guard) for my fall; “perhaps he will be pathah (persuaded), and we shall yakal (prevail) against him, and we shall laqach (take / seize) our naqamah (revenge) on him.”

But Yahawah () is with me as an awesome gabawar (mighty) irayatz (one): therefore my persecutors shall kashal (stumble / stagger), and they shall not yakal (prevail); they shall be maad (utterly) disappointed, because they shakal (have) not dealt wisely, even with an iwalam (forever) dishonor which shall never be shakach (forgotten).

But, Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), who tests the tzadayaq (righteous), who raah (see) the kalayah (heart) and the lab (heart), raah (see) me see your naqamah (vengeance) on them; for to you have I galah (revealed) my rayab (cause).

Shayar (sing) to Yahawah (), halal (praise) Yahawah (); for he has natzal (delivered) the napash (soul) of the abayawan (needy) from the yad (hand) of evildoers.

Arar (cursed) is the yawam (day) in which I was yalad (birth / begot): don't let the yawam (day) in which my am (mother) yalad (birth / begot) me be barak (blessed).

Arar (cursed) is the ayash (man / husband) who bashar (brought) news to my ab (father), amar (said), “A boy is yalad (birth / begot) to you;” shamach (making) him very shamach (glad).

Let that ayash (man / husband) be as the irayam (cities) which Yahawah () overthrew, and didn't nacham (turn away / repent): and shamai (hearken / hear) him hear a zaiq (cry) in the baqar (morning), and tharawaih (shouting) at noontime;

Because he didn't mawath (death) me from the racham (show mercy / love); and so my am (mother) would have been my qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher), and her racham (show mercy / love) iwalam (eternity) harah (great).

Why yatzaa (go out / come out) I forth out of the racham (show mercy / love) to raah (see / saw) imal (labor) and yagawan (sorrow), that my yawam (day) should be kalah (complete / finish) with bashath (shame)?
