Jeremiah 23 — English–Hebrew Parallel

“Haway (Alas/Woe!) To the raiyam (shepherds) who abad (destroy / perish) and pawatz (scatter) the tzaan (sheep) of my maraiyath (pasture)!” Naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

Therefore thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), against the raiyam (shepherds) who raih (feed) my im (nation / people): “You have pawatz (scattered) my tzaan (flock), and nadach (driven) them away, and paqad (visit) not visited them; behold, I will paqad (visit) on you the rai (evil) of your mailal (doings),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“I will qabatz (gather) the shaarayath (remnant) of my tzaan (flock) out of all the aratzawath (countries) where I have nadach (driven) them, and will shawab (turn) them again to their nawah (habitation); and they shall be parah (bear fruit / increase) and rabah (multiply).

I will qawam (rise up) up raiyam (shepherds) over them, who shall raih (feed) them; and they shall yaraa (fear / be afraid) no more, nor be chathath (dismayed), neither shall any be paqad (visit),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“Behold, the yamayam (days) bawaa (come),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “that I will qawam (rise up) to Dawad (David) a tzadayaq (righteous) tzamach (branch), and he shall malak (king) as malak (king) and deal shakal (wisely), and shall ishah (make) mashapat (justice) and tzadaqah (righteousness) in the aratz (Earth/land).

In his yawam (day) Yahawadah (Judah) shall be yashai (salvation), and Yashar-Al (Israel) shall shakan (place) safely; and this is his sham (name) by which he shall be qaraa (called): Yahawah () our righteousness.

“Therefore, behold, the yamayam (days) bawaa (come),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “that they shall no more amar (spoke), ‘As Yahawah () chay (life), who ilah (go up / offer) up the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt);’

But, ‘As Yahawah () chay (life), who ilah (go up / offer) up and who bawaa (come) the zarai (seed) of the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) out of the tzapawan (north) aratz (Earth/land), and from all the aratzawath (countries) where I had nadach (driven) them.’ They shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) in their own adamah (land).”

Concerning the nabaayam (prophets). My lab (heart) qarab (among / near) me is shabar (broken), all my itzam (bones) rachap (hover); I am like a shakawar (drunken) ayash (man / husband), and like a gabar (man) whom yayan (wine) ibar (pass over/through) overcome, panayam (face) of Yahawah (), and because of his qadash (set apart / make holy) dabaray (words).

For the aratz (Earth/land) is malaa (full) of manaapayam (adulterers); for panayam (face) of alah (these) the aratz (Earth/land) abal (mourns); the naawath (pastures) of the madabar (wilderness) are yabash (dry land) up. Their marawatzah (course) is rai (evil), and their gabawarah (might) is not right;

For both nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) and kahan (priest) are chanap (profane); yes, in my bayath (house) matzaa (have) I found their rai (wickedness),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

Therefore their darak (way) shall be to them as chalaqalaqah (slippery) places in the apalah (darkness): they shall be dachah (driven) on, and napal (fall / be cast down) therein; for I will bawaa (come) rai (evil) on them, even the shanah (year) of their paqadah (visitation),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“I raah (see / saw) seen thapalah (folly) in the nabayaay (prophets) of Shamarawan (Samaria); they nabaa (prophesied) by Bail (Baal), and caused my im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel) to thaih (err).

In the nabaay (prophets) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) also I raah (see / saw) seen a shairawarah (horrible) thing: they naap (commit) adultery, and halak (move) in shaqar (lies); and they chazaq (strengthen) the yaday (hands) of evildoers, so that ayash (man / husband) does shawab (turn) from his rai (wickedness): they are all of them become to me as Sadam (Sodom), and its yashab (inhabit/dwell) as Imarah (Gomorrah).”

Therefore thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) concerning the nabaayam (prophets): “Behold, I will akal (eat) them with lainah (wormwood), and shaqah (make) them drink the mayam (Waters) of raash (head); for from the nabaayam (prophets) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) is ungodliness yatzaa (go out / come out) forth into all the aratz (Earth/land).”

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), “Don't shamai (hearken / hear) to the dabaray (words) of the nabaayam (prophets) who nabaa (prophesy) to you: they teach you vanity; they dabar (word / matter) a chazawan (vision) of their own lab (heart), and not out of the pah (mouth) of Yahawah ().

They amar (spoke) continually to those who naatz (despise) me, ‘Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter), “You shall have shalawam (peace / safety);”’ and to everyone who halak (move) in the stubbornness of his own lab (heart) they amar (spoke), ‘No rai (evil) shall bawaa (come) on you.’

For who has imad (stood) in the council of Yahawah (), that he should raah (see) and shamai (hearken / hear) his dabar (word / matter)? Who has qashab (marked) my dabar (word / matter), and shamai (hearken / hear) it?

Behold, the sair (storm) of Yahawah (), his chamah (wrath), yatzaa (go out / come out) gone forth. Yes, a whirling sair (storm). It shall burst on the raash (head) of the rashai (wicked).

The ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) of Yahawah () shall not shawab (turn back / repent), until he ishah (make) executed, and until he have qawam (rise up) the mazamawath (intents) of his lab (heart): in the acharayath (latter) yamayam (days) you shall bayan (between) it bayanah (perfectly).

I shalach (send) not these nabaayam (prophets), yet they rawatz (ran): I didn't dabar (word / matter) to them, yet they nabaa (prophesied).

But if they had imad (stood) in my council, then had they caused my im (nation / people) to shamai (hearken / hear) my dabar (word / matter), and had shawab (turn) them from their rai (evil) darak (way), and from the rai (evil) of their mailal (doings).

“Am I a Alahayam () at qarawab (hand),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “and not a Alahayam () rachawaq (afar) off?

Can any sathar (hide) himself in masathar (secret) places so that I shall not raah (see) him?” Naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (). “Don't I malaa (fill) shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens) and aratz (Earth/land)?” Naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“I have shamai (hearken / hear) what the nabaayam (prophets) have amar (said), who nabaa (prophesy) shaqar (lies) in my sham (name), amar (said), ‘I have chalam (dream), I have chalam (dream).’

How long yash (shall) this be in the lab (heart) of the nabaayam (prophets) who nabaa (prophesy) shaqar (lies), even the nabaayam (prophets) of the tharamah (deceit) of their own lab (heart)?

Who chashab (think) to cause my im (nation / people) to shakach (forget) my sham (name) by their chalawam (dreams) which they sapar (book) every ayash (man / husband) to his neighbor, as their ab (father) shakach (forgot) my sham (name) for Bail (Baal).

The nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) who has a chalawam (dream), let him sapar (book) a chalawam (dream); and he who has my dabar (word / matter), let him dabar (word / matter) my dabar (word / matter) faithfully. What is the thaban (straw) to the bar (wheat)?” Naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“Isn't my dabar (word / matter) kah (like) ash (fire)?” Naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (); “and like a patayash (hammer) that pawatz (breaks) the salai (rock) in pawatz (pieces)?

“Therefore, behold, I am against the nabaayam (prophets),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “who ganab (steal) my dabar (word / matter) everyone from his neighbor.

Behold, I am against the nabayaam (prophets),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “who use their lashawan (tongue / language), and naam (declares prophetically), ‘He naam (declares prophetically).’

Behold, I am against those who nabaa (prophesy) shaqar (lying) chalamawath (dreams),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “and do sapar (book) them, and cause my im (nation / people) to thaih (err) by their shaqar (lies), and by their vain boasting: yet I didn't shalach (send) them, nor tzawah (commanded) them; neither yail (do) they profit this im (nation / people) at yail (all),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“When this im (nation / people), or the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), or a kahan (priest), shall shaal (ask) you, amar (spoke), ‘What is the mashaa (burden) of Yahawah ()?’ Then you shall amar (spoke) them, ‘“What mashaa (burden)! I will natash (cast) you off,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().’

As for the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and the kahan (priest), and the im (nation / people), who shall amar (spoke), ‘The mashaa (burden) of Yahawah (),’ I will even paqad (visit) that ayash (man / husband) and his bayath (house).

You shall amar (spoke) everyone to his neighbor, and everyone to his ach (brother/kinsman), ‘What has Yahawah () inah (answer / respond)?’ And, ‘What has Yahawah () dabar (word / matter)?’

You shall zakar (remember) the mashaa (burden) of Yahawah () no more: for every ayash (man / husband) own dabar (word / matter) shall be his mashaa (burden); for you have perverted the dabaray (words) of the chay (life) Alahayam (), of Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) our Alahayam ().

You shall amar (spoke) to the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), ‘What has Yahawah () inah (answer / respond) you?’ And, ‘What has Yahawah () dabar (word / matter)?’

But if you amar (spoke), ‘The mashaa (burden) of Yahawah ();’ therefore thus thaamaraw (says) Yahawah (): ‘Because you amar (spoke) this dabar (word / matter), “The mashaa (burden) of Yahawah (),” and I have shalach (send) to you, amar (spoke), You shall not amar (spoke), “The mashaa (burden) of Yahawah ();”

Therefore, behold, I will nashaa (lift) nashah (forget) you, and I will natash (cast) you off, and the iyar (city) that I nathan (give) to you and to your ab (father), away from my panayam (face):

And I will nathan (give) an iwalam (eternity) charapah (reproach) on you, and a iwalam (eternity) kalamawath (shame), which shall not be shakach (forgotten).’”
