Jeremiah 31 — English–Hebrew Parallel

“At that ith (time),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “will I be the Alahayam () of all the mashapachawath (families) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and they shall be my im (nation / people).”

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), “The im (nation / people) who were sharayad (left) of the charab (sword) matzaa (found) favor in the madabar (wilderness); even Yashar-Al (Israel), when I halak (move) to cause him to ragai (rest).”

Yahawah () raah (see) of rachawaq (old) to me, saying, “Yes, I have ahab (love) you with an iwalam (forever) ahabah (love): therefore with ahabah (loving) chasad (grace) have I mashak (drawn) you.

Again will I banah (build) you, and you shall be banah (build), O bathawalah (virgin) of Yashar-Al (Israel): again you shall be idah (adorned) with your tambourines, and shall yatzaa (go out / come out) forth in the machawal (dances) of those who shachaq (make) merry.

Again you shall natai (plant) karamayam (vineyards) on the haray (mountains) of Shamarawan (Samaria); the nataiw (planters) shall natai (plant), and shall enjoy its fruit.

For there yash (shall) be a yawam (day), that the watchmen on the har (mountain) of Aparayam (Ephraim) shall qaraa (called), ‘qawam (rise up), and let us ilah (go up / offer) up to Tzayawan (Zion) to Yahawah () our Alahayam ().’”

For thus amaraw (says) Yahawah (), “ranan (sing) with shamachah (gladness) for Yaiqab (Jacob), and tzahal (shout) for the raash (head) of the gawayam (nations): shamai (hearken / hear), halal (praise), and amar (spoke), ‘Yahawah (), yashai (salvation) your im (nation / people), the shaarayath (remnant) of Yashar-Al (Israel).’

Behold, I will bawaa (bring) them from the tzapawan (north) aratz (Earth/land), and qabatz (gather) them from the uttermost yarakathay (parts) of the aratz (Earth/land), along with the iwar (blind) and the pasach (lame), the harah (woman) with child and her who yalad (birth / begot) with child yachad (together): a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) qahal (company) shall they shawab (turn) here.

They shall bawaa (bring) with bakay (weeping); and with petitions will I yabal (lead) them: I will yalak (cause) them to walk by nachalay (rivers) of mayam (Waters), in a yashar (upright) darak (way) in which they shall not kashal (stumble / stagger); for I am a ab (father) to Yashar-Al (Israel), and Aparayam (Ephraim) is my bakawar (firstborn).

“Shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), you gawayam (nations), and nagad (declare) it in the ayayam (islands) afar off; and amar (spoke), ‘He who zarah (scattered) Yashar-Al (Israel) will qabatz (gather) him, and shamar (keep/guard) him, as raih (shepherd) does his idar (flock).’

For Yahawah () has gaal (ransomed) Yaiqab (Jacob), and padah (redeemed) him from the yad (hand) of him who was chazaq (stronger) than he.

They shall bawaa (come) and ranan (sing) in the marawam (height) of Tzayawan (Zion), and shall nahar (flow) to the goodness of Yahawah (), to the grain, and to the new thayarawash (wine), and to the yatzahar (fresh oil), and to the ban (son) of the tzaan (flock) and of the baqar (morning): and their napash (soul) shall be as a rawah (watered) gan (garden); and they shall not daab (sorrow) any more at all.

Then shall the bathawalah (virgin) shamach (rejoice) in the machawal (dance), and the bachawar (young) men and the zaqan (old) yachad (together); for I will hapak (turn) their abal (mourning) into shashawan (joy), and will nacham (turn away / repent) them, and shamach (make) them rejoice from their yagawan (sorrow).

I will rawah (satiate) the napash (soul) of the kahanayam (priests) with dashan (fatness), and my im (nation / people) shall be shabai (satisfied) with my goodness,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (): “A qawal (sound / voice) is shamai (hearken / hear) in Ramah (Ramah), nahay (lamentation), and thamarawar (bitter) bakay (weeping), Rachal (Rachel) bakah (weeping) for her ban (son); she maan (refuses) to be nacham (turn away / repent) for her ban (son), because they are no more.”

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (): “manai (refrain) your qawal (sound / voice) from bakay (weeping), and your iyan (eye) from damaih (tears); for your pailah (work) yash (shall) be shakar (rewarded),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (); “and they shall shawab (turn back / repent) again from the aratz (Earth/land) of the ayab (enemy).

There is thaqawah (hope) for your acharayath (latter) end,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (); “and your banayam (children) shall shawab (turn back / repent) again to their own gabawal (border/boundary).

“I have shamai (hearken / hear) shamai (hearken / hear) Aparayam (Ephraim) nawad (bemoaning) himself thus, ‘You have yasar (chastised) me, and I was yasar (chastised), as an untrained igal (calf): shawab (turn back / repent) me, and I shall be shawab (turn back / repent); for you are Yahawah () my Alahayam ().

Surely achar (other) that I was shawab (turn), I nacham (turn away / repent); and achar (other) that I was yadai (instructed), I sapaq (struck) on my yarak (thigh): I was bawash (ashamed), yes, even kalam (confounded), because I nashaa (lift) the charapah (reproach) of my naiwar (youth).’

Is Aparayam (Ephraim) my yaqayar (dear) ban (son)? Is he a darling yalad (birth / begot)? For as often as I dabar (word / matter) against him, I do zakar (remember) zakar (remember) him still: therefore my maih (heart) yearns for him; I will racham (show mercy / love) have racham (show mercy / love) on him,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“Natzab (set) up road tzayanayam (signs), shawam (place / establish / appoint) guideposts; shayath (put / appoint / make) your lab (heart) toward the masalah (highway), even the darak (way) by which you halak (move): shawab (turn) again, bathawalah (virgin) of Yashar-Al (Israel), shawab (turn) again to these your iyar (cities).

How long will you chamaq (go) here and there, you shawabab (backsliding) banath (daughter)? For Yahawah () has baraa (created) a chadash (new) thing in the aratz (Earth/land): a naqabah (woman) shall encompass a gabar (man).”

Thus yaamaraw (says) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), “Yet again shall they use this dabar (word / matter) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Yahawadah (Judah) and in its iyar (cities), when I shall shawab (turn back / repent) again their shabawath (captivity): ‘Yahawah () barak (blessed) you, nawah (habitation) of tzadaq (righteous / just / fair), har (mountain) of qadash (set apart / make holy).’

Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) and all its iyar (cities) shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) therein yachad (together), the farmers, and those who nasai (go) about with idar (flocks).

For I have rawah (satiated) the iyap (weary) napash (soul), and every daab (sorrowful) napash (soul) malaa (have) I replenished.”

On this I awakened, and raah (see / saw); and my shanah (sleep) was irab (evening) to me.

“Behold, the yamayam (days) bawaa (come),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “that I will zarai (sow) the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) and the bayath (house) of Yahawadah (Judah) with the zarai (seed) of adam (man), and with the zarai (seed) of animal.

It shall happen that, like as I have shaqad (watched) over them to nathash (pluck) up and to nathatz (break) down and to haras (overthrow) and to abad (destroy / perish) and to raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil), so will I shaqad (watch) over them to banah (build) and to natai (plant),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“In those yamayam (days) they shall amar (said) no more, “‘The abawath (fathers) have akal (eat) basar (sour) grapes, and the banayam (childrens) shanay (second) are qahah (set) on edge.’

But everyone shall mawath (death) for his own iwan (guilt/iniquity): every adam (man) who akal (eat) the basar (sour) grapes, his shan (teeth) shall be qahah (set) on edge.

“Behold, the yamayam (days) bawaa (come),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “that I will karath (cut) a chadash (new) barayath (covenant) with the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and with the bayath (house) of Yahawadah (Judah):

Not according to the barayath (covenant) that I karath (cut) with their ab (father) in the yawam (day) that I chazaq (took) them by the yad (hand) to yatzaa (go out / come out) them out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt); which my barayath (covenant) they parar (broke), although I was a bail (husband) to them,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“But this is the barayath (covenant) that I will karath (cut) with the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) achar (other) those yamayam (days),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (): “I will nathan (give) my thawarah (instruction) in their qarab (among / near) parts, and in their lab (heart) will I kathab (write) it; and I will be their Alahayam (), and they shall be my im (nation / people):

And they shall lamad (teach / instruct) no more every ayash (man / husband) his neighbor, and every ayash (man / husband) his ach (brother/kinsman), amar (spoke), ‘yadai (know) Yahawah ();’ for they shall all yadai (know) me, from their qatan (small / young / least) to their greatest,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (): “for I will salach (forgive/pardon/make clean) their iwan (guilt/iniquity), and their chataah (sin) will I zakar (remember) no more.”

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), who nathan (give) the shamash (sun) for a awar (light) by yawamam (by day), and the chaqath (ordinances) of the yarach (moon) and of the kawakabayam (stars) for a awar (light) by layal (night), who stirs up the yam (sea/waters), so that its gal (waves) hamah (great uproar); Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) is his sham (name):

“If these chaqayam (ordinances) depart from panayam (face) me,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “then the zarai (seed) of Yashar-Al (Israel) also shall shabath (shabath / rest) from being a gaway (heathen / nation) panayam (face) me yawam (day).”

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (): “If shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens) mail (top/above) can be madad (measured), and the mawasaday (foundations) of the aratz (Earth/land) chaqar (searched) out matah (beneath), then will I also maas (cast) off all the zarai (seed) of Yashar-Al (Israel) for all that they ishah (make) done,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah ().

“Behold, the yamayam (days) come,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “that the iyar (city) shall be banah (build) to Yahawah () from the magadal (tower) of Chananaal (Hananel) to the shair (gate) of the panah (corner / cornerstone).

The madah (measuring) qawah (gather/wait) shall yatzaa (go out / come out) out further straight onward to the gabaih (hill) Garab (Gareb), and shall sabab (turn) about to Gaih (Goah).

The whole imaq (valley) of the pagar (dead) bodies and of the ashes, and all the sharamawath (fields) to the nachal (stream / river) Qadarawan (Kidron), to the panah (corner / cornerstone) of the sawas (horse) shair (gate) toward the mazarach (east), shall be qadash (set apart / make holy) to Yahawah (); it shall not be nathash (plucked) up, nor haras (thrown) down any more iwalam (forever).”
