Amos 6 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who are at shaanan (ease) in Tzayawan (Zion), and to those who are batach (secure) on the har (mountain) of Shamarawan (Samaria), the notable men of the raashayath (beginning) of the gawayam (heathen), to whom the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) bawaa (bring)!

Ibar (pass over/through) to Kalanah (Calneh), and raah (see); and from there yalak (go) to Chamath (Hamath) the rab (great); then yarad (go) down to gath (gath) of the Palashathay (Philistines). Are they tawab (good / proper function) than these mamalakawath (kingdoms)? Or is their gabawal (border/boundary) greater than your gabawal (border/boundary)?

Those who nadah (put) far away the rai (evil) yawam (day), and cause the shabath (shabath / rest) of chamas (violence) to nagash (come) near;

Who shakab (lie) on matawath (beds) of shan (ivory), and sarach (stretch) themselves on their couches, and akal (eat) the karayam (lambs) out of the tzaan (flock), and the calves out of the thawak (midst) of the marabaq (stall);

Who strum on the strings of a harp; who chashab (invent) for themselves kalay (instruments) of music, like Dawad (David);

Who shathah (drinks) yayan (wine) in mazaraqay (bowls), and mashach (anoint) themselves with the best shamanayam (oils); but they are not chalah (afflict) for the shabar (affliction) of Yawasap (Joseph).

Therefore they will now galah (go) captive with the raash (head) who galah (go) captive; and the feasting and lounging will end.

“The Adanay () Yahawah () has shabai (swear / take oath) by himself,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of tzabaawath (armies): “I thaab (abhor) the gaawan (pride) of Yaiqab (Jacob), and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will sagar (deliver) up the iyar (city) with malaa (all) that is in it.

It will happen, if there yathar (remain) ishar (ten) anashayam (men) in achad (one) bayath (house), that they shall mawath (death).

“When a dawad (man's) relative nashaa (lift) him, even he who sarap (burns) him, to yatzaa (go out / come out) bodies out of the bayath (house), and asks him who is in the innermost yarakathay (parts) of the bayath (house), ‘Is there yet any with you?’ And he amar (spoke), ‘No;’ then he will amar (spoke), ‘Hush! Indeed we must not zakar (remember) the sham (name) of Yahawah ().’

“For, behold, Yahawah () tzawah (commands), and the gadawal (very great/important/mighty) bayath (house) will be smashed to pieces, and the qatan (small / young / least) bayath (house) into bits.

Do sawasayam (horses) rawatz (run) on the rocky crags? Does one charash (plow) there with oxen? But you have hapak (turned) mashapat (justice) into raash (head), and the paray (fruit) of tzadaqah (righteousness) into bitterness;

You who shamach (rejoice) in a thing of nothing, who amar (said), ‘Haven't we laqach (take / seize) for ourselves qaran (horn) by our own chazaq (strength)?’

For, behold, I will qawam (rise up) up against you a gaway (heathen / nation), bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel),” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of tzabaawath (armies); “and they will lachatz (afflict) you from the entrance of Chamath (Hamath) to the nachal (stream / river) of the irabah (arabah).”
