1 But it displeased Yawanah (Jonah) gadawal (very great/important/mighty), and he was charah (hot with anger).
2 He palal (prayed) to Yahawah (), and amar (spoke), “Please, Yahawah (), wasn't this dabar (word / matter) I said when I was still in my own adamah (country)? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tharashayash (Tarshish), for I yadai (knew) that you are a chanawan (gracious) Al, and rachawam (merciful), arak (slow) to ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting), and abundant in loving chasad (grace), and you relent of doing rai (harm).
3 Therefore now, Yahawah (), laqach (take / seize), I beg you, my napash (soul) from me; for it is tawab (good / proper function) for me to mawath (death) than to chay (life).”
4 Yahawah () amar (spoke), “Is it right for you to be charah (hot with anger)?”
5 Then Yawanah (Jonah) yatzaa (go out / come out) out of the iyar (city), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the qadam (east) side of the iyar (city), and there ishah (make) himself a sakah (booth), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) under it in the tzal (shade), until he might raah (see / saw) what would become of the iyar (city).
6 Yahawah () Alahayam () manah (prepared) a vine, and ilah (go up / offer) it to come up over Yawanah (Jonah), that it might be a tzal (shade) over his raash (head), to natzal (deliver) him from his discomfort. So he was gadawal (very great/important/mighty) shamach (glad) because of the vine.
7 But Alahayam () manah (prepared) a thawalai (worm) at dawn the next macharath (day), and it chewed on the vine, so that it yabash (dry land).
8 It happened, when the shamash (sun) arose, that Alahayam () manah (prepared) a sultry qadayam (east) rawach (spirit / wind); and the shamash (sun) nakah (beat) on Yawanah (Jonah's) raash (head), so that he ilap (fainted), and shaal (requested) for himself that he might mawath (death), and amar (spoke), “It is tawab (good / proper function) for me to mawath (death) than to chay (life).”
9 Alahayam () amar (spoke) to Yawanah (Jonah), “Is it right for you to be charah (hot with anger) about the vine?” He amar (spoke), “I am right to be charah (hot with anger), even to mawath (death).”
10 Yahawah () amar (spoke), “You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither gadal (made) it grow; which ban (son) up in a night, and abad (destroy / perish) in a ban (son).
11 Shouldn't I be concerned for Nayanawah (Nineveh), that gadawal (very great/important/mighty) iyar (city), in which are more than one hundred shanayam (two) rabaw (thousand) adam (persons) who can't yadai (discern) between their right yamayan (right hand) and their left shamaawal (left hand); and also much livestock?”
