Deuteronomy 14 — English–Hebrew Parallel

You are the banayam (children) of Yahawah () your Alahayam (): you shall not gadad (cut) yourselves, nor shawam (place / establish / appoint) any qarachah (baldness) between your iyan (eye) for the mawath (death).

For you are a qadawash (holy) imayam (people) to Yahawah () your Alahayam (), and Yahawah () has bachar (chosen) you to be a imayam (people) for his own sagalah (possession), above all imayam (peoples) who are on the face of the adamah (earth).

You shall not akal (eat) any thawaibah (abominable) thing.

These are the animals which you may akal (eat): the shawar (ox), the shah (sheep), and the iz (goat),

The ayal (hart), and the gazelle, and the tzabay (roebuck), and the aqaw (wild) goat, and the ibex, and the antelope, and the zamar (chamois).

Every animal that paras (parts) the parasah (hoof), and has the parasah (hoof) cloven in shanayam (two) and chews the garah (cud), among the animals, that may you akal (eat).

Nevertheless these you shall not akal (eat) of them that chew the garah (cud), or of those who paras (have) the parasah (hoof) shasai (cloven): the gamal (camel), and the aranabath (hare), and the Shapan (rabbit); because they chew the garah (cud) but don't paras (part) the parasah (hoof), they are tamaa (unclean) to you.

The pig, because it paras (has) a split parasah (hoof) but doesn't chew the garah (cud), is tamaa (unclean) to you: of their bashar (flesh) you shall not akal (eat), and their carcasses you shall not nagai (touch).

These you may akal (eat) of all that are in the mayam (Waters): whatever has sanapayar (fins) and qashaqashath (scales) may you akal (eat);

And whatever doesn't have sanapayar (fins) and qashaqashath (scales) you shall not akal (eat); it is tamaa (unclean) to you.

Of all tahawar (clean) tzapawar (birds) you may akal (eat).

But these are they of which you shall not akal (eat): the nashar (eagle), and the vulture, and the osprey,

And the red ayah (kite), and the falcon, and the ayah (kite) after its mayan (species),

And every irab (evening) after its mayan (species),

And the ostrich, and the banath (daughter), and the seagull, and the thachamas (hawk) after its mayan (species),

The little kawas (owl), and the great yanashawap (owl), and the horned owl,

And the pelican, and the vulture, and the shalak (cormorant),

And the chasayadah (stork), and the anapah (heron) after its mayan (species), and the hoopoe, and the italap (bat).

All winged sharatz (creeping) things are tamaa (unclean) to you: they shall not be akal (eat).

Of all tahawar (clean) iwap (flying) you may akal (eat).

You shall not akal (eat) of anything that dies of nabalah (itself): you may nathan (give) it to the foreigner living among you who is within your shair (gates), that he may akal (eat) it; or you may makar (sell) it to a nakaray (foreigner): for you are a qadawash (holy) im (nation / people) to Yahawah () your Alahayam (). You shall not bashal (boil) a young goat in its am (mother) chalab (milk).

You shall ishar (surely) ishar (tithe) all the thabawaah (increase) of your zarai (seed), that which yatzaa (go out / come out) forth from the shadah (field) shanah (year) by shanah (year).

You shall akal (eat) panayam (face) Yahawah () your Alahayam (), in the maqawam (place) which he shall bachar (choose), to cause his sham (name) to shakan (place) there, the maishar (tithe) of your grain, of your new thayarawash (wine), and of your yatzahar (fresh oil), and the bakawarah (firstborn) of your baqar (morning) and of your tzaan (flock); that you may lamad (teach / instruct) to yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah () your Alahayam () yamayam (always).

If the darak (way) is too rabah (long) for you, so that you are not yakal (able) to nashaa (lift) it, because the maqawam (place) is rachaq (too) far from you, which Yahawah () your Alahayam () shall bachar (choose), to shawam (place / establish / appoint) his sham (name) there, when Yahawah () your Alahayam () shall barak (blessed) you;

Then you shall nathan (give) it into kasap (money), and tzarar (bind) up the kasap (money) in your yad (hand), and shall halak (move) to the maqawam (place) which Yahawah () your Alahayam () shall bachar (choose):

And you shall nathan (give) the kasap (money) for whatever your napash (soul) awah (desires), for cattle, or for tzaan (sheep), or for yayan (wine), or for shakar (strong) drink, or for whatever your napash (soul) shaal (asks) of you; and you shall akal (eat) there panayam (face) Yahawah () your Alahayam (), and you shall shamach (rejoice), you and your bayath (house).

The Lawayay (Levite) who is within your shair (gates), you shall not izab (forsake) him; for he has no chalaq (portion) nor nachalah (inheritance) with you.

At the qatzah (end / extremity / border) of every shalawash (three) shanayam (two) you shall yatzaa (go out / come out) forth all the maishar (tithe) of your thabawaah (increase) in the same shanah (year), and shall yanach (lay) it up within your shair (gates):

And the Lawayay (Levite), because he has no chalaq (portion) nor nachalah (inheritance) with you, and the foreigner living among you, and the yathawam (fatherless), and the alamanah (widow), who are within your shair (gates), shall bawaa (come), and shall akal (eat) and be shabai (satisfied); that Yahawah () your Alahayam () may barak (blessed) you in all the maishah (work) of your yad (hand) which you ishah (make).
