Deuteronomy 24 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 When a ayash (man / husband) laqach (take / seize) a ayashah (woman / wife), and bail (marries) her, then it shall be, if she matzaa (find) no favor in his iyan (eye), because he matzaa (has) found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall kathab (write) her a sapar (book / scribed document) of karayathawath (divorce), and nathan (give) it in her yad (hand), and shalach (send) her out of his bayath (house).

2 When she is departed out of his bayath (house), she may halak (move) and be achar (other) ayash (man / husband) wife.

3 If the acharawan (latter) ayash (man / husband) shanaa (hate) her, and kathab (write) her a sapar (book / scribed document) of karayathawath (divorce), and nathan (give) it in her yad (hand), and shalach (send) her out of his bayath (house); or if the acharawan (latter) ayash (man / husband) mawath (death), who laqach (take / seize) her to be his ayashah (woman / wife);

4 Her raashawan (former) bail (husband), who shalach (send) her away, may not laqach (take / seize) her again to be his ayashah (woman / wife), achar (other) that she is tamaa (defiled); for that is thawaibah (abomination) panayam (face) Yahawah (): and you shall not cause the aratz (Earth/land) to chataa (sin), which Yahawah () your Alahayam () nathan (give) you for an nachalah (inheritance).

5 When a ayash (man / husband) laqach (take / seize) a chadash (new) ayashah (woman / wife), he shall not yatzaa (go out / come out) out in the tzabaa (troop), neither shall he be assigned any dabar (word / matter): he shall be naqay (free) at bayath (house) achad (one) shanah (year), and shall shamach (cheer) his ayashah (woman / wife) whom he has laqach (take / seize).

6 No chabal (man) shall take the rachah (mill) or the upper rakab (millstone) to chabal (pledge); for he takes a napash (soul) in chabal (pledge).

7 If a ayash (man / husband) be matzaa (found) ganab (stealing) any of his ach (brother/kinsman) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and he deal with him as a slave, or makar (sell) him; then that ganab (thief) shall mawath (death): so you shall bair (put) bair (away) the rai (evil) from the qarab (among / near) of you.

8 Shamar (keep/guard) heed in the nagai (plague) of tzaraith (leprosy), that you shamar (keep/guard) maad (diligently), and ishah (make) according to all that the kahanayam (priests) the Lawayay (Levites) shall yarah (teach) you: as I tzawah (commanded) them, so you shall shamar (keep/guard) to ishah (make).

9 Zakar (remember) what Yahawah () your Alahayam () ishah (make) to Marayam (Miriam), by the darak (way) as you yatzaa (go out / come out) forth out of Matzarayam (Egypt).

10 When you do nashah (lend) your neighbor any kind of loan, you shall not bawaa (bring) into his bayath (house) to get his ibawat (pledge).

11 You shall imad (stand) outside, and the ayash (man / husband) to whom you do nashah (lend) shall yatzaa (go out / come out) forth the ibawat (pledge) outside to you.

12 If he be a inay (poor) ayash (man / husband), you shall not sleep with his ibawat (pledge);

13 You shall shawab (turn back / repent) shawab (turn back / repent) to him the ibawat (pledge) when the shamash (sun) bawaa (come) down, that he may sleep in his shalamah (dress / garment), and barak (blessed) you: and it shall be tzadaqah (righteousness) to you panayam (face) Yahawah () your Alahayam ().

14 You shall not ishaq (oppress) a hired shakayar (servant) who is inay (poor) and abayawan (needy), whether he be of your ach (brother/kinsman), or of your foreigners who are in your aratz (Earth/land) within your shair (gates):

15 In his yawam (day) you shall nathan (give) him his shakar (hire), neither shall the shamash (sun) bawaa (come) down on it; for he is inay (poor), and nashaa (lift) his napash (soul) on it: lest he qaraa (called) against you to Yahawah (), and it be chataa (sin) to you.

16 The abawath (fathers) shall not be put to mawath (death) for the banayam (children), neither shall the banayam (children) be put to mawath (death) for the abawath (fathers): every ayash (man / husband) shall be put to mawath (death) for his own chataa (sin).

17 You shall not deprive the foreigner, or the yathawam (fatherless) of mashapat (justice), nor take a alamanah (widow's) bagad (clothing) in chabal (pledge);

18 But you shall zakar (remember) that you were a ibad (servant) in Matzarayam (Egypt), and Yahawah () your Alahayam () padah (redeemed) you there: therefore I tzawah (command) you to ishah (make) this thing.

19 When you qatzar (reap) your qatzayar (harvest) in your shadah (field), and have shakach (forgot) a imar (sheaf) in the shadah (field), you shall not shawab (turn back / repent) again to laqach (take / seize) it: it shall be for the foreigner, for the yathawam (fatherless), and for the alamanah (widow); that Yahawah () your Alahayam () may barak (blessed) you in all the maishah (work) of your yad (hand).

20 When you chabat (beat) your zayath (olive) tree, you shall not paar (go) over the boughs again: it shall be for the foreigner, for the yathawam (fatherless), and for the alamanah (widow).

21 When you harvest your karam (vineyard), you shall not ilal (glean) it achar (other) yourselves: it shall be for the foreigner, for the yathawam (fatherless), and for the alamanah (widow).

22 You shall zakar (remember) that you were a ibad (servant) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt): therefore I tzawah (command) you to ishah (make) this thing.
