Joshua 14 — English–Hebrew Parallel

These are the inheritances which the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) nachal (took) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan), which Alaizar (Eleazar) the kahan (priest), Yahawashawai (Joshua) the ban (son) of Nawan (Nun), and the raashay (heads) of the abawath (fathers)’ houses of the matawath (tribes) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), nachal (distributed) to them,

By the gawaral (lot) of their nachalah (inheritance), as Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) by Mashah (Moses), for the thashai (nine) matawath (tribes), and for the half-tribe.

For Mashah (Moses) nathan (give) given the nachalah (inheritance) of the shanayam (two) matawath (tribes) and the half-tribe ibar (beyond) the Yaradan (Jordan); but to the Lawayay (Levites) he nathan (give) no nachalah (inheritance) thawak (midst) them.

For the banay (my son) of Yawasap (Joseph) were shanayam (two) matawath (tribes), Manashah (Manasseh) and Aparayam (Ephraim): and they nathan (give) no chalaq (portion) to the Lawayay (Levites) in the aratz (Earth/land), except irayam (cities) to yashab (inhabit/dwell) in, with their magarash (suburbs) for their livestock and for their property.

The banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) ishah (make) as Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) Mashah (Moses), and they chalaq (divided) the aratz (Earth/land).

Then the banay (children) of Yahawadah (Judah) nagash (drew) near to Yahawashawai (Joshua) in Galagal (Gilgal). Kalab (Caleb) the ban (son) of Yapanah (Jephunneh) the Qanazay (Kenizzite) amar (spoke) to him, “You yadai (know) the thing that Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) to Mashah (Moses) the ayash (man / husband) of Alahayam () awadawath (concerning) me and awadawath (concerning) you in Qadash-Baranai (Kadesh Barnea).

I was arabaiyam (forty) shanah (years) ban (son) when Mashah (Moses) the ibad (servant) of Yahawah () shalach (send) me from Qadash-Baranai (Kadesh Barnea) to ragal (spy) out the aratz (Earth/land). I shawab (turn back / repent) him dabar (word / matter) again as it was in my labab (heart).

Nevertheless, my ach (brother/kinsman) who ilah (go up / offer) up with me made the lab (heart) of the im (nation / people) masah (melt); but I malaa (wholly) achar (other) Yahawah () my Alahayam ().

Mashah (Moses) shabai (swear / take oath) on that yawam (day), amar (spoke), ‘Surely the aratz (Earth/land) where you darak (walked) shall be an nachalah (inheritance) to you and to your ban (son) iwalam (forever), because you malaa (have) wholly achar (other) Yahawah () my Alahayam ().’

“Now, behold, Yahawah () has chayah (kept) me alive, as he dabar (word / matter), these forty-five shanah (years), from the az (time) that Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) this dabar (word / matter) to Mashah (Moses), while Yashar-Al (Israel) halak (move) in the madabar (wilderness). Now, behold, I am eighty-five shanah (years) ban (son), today.

As yet I am as chazaq (strong) today as I was in the yawam (day) that Mashah (Moses) shalach (send) me: as my kach (strength / mighty / power) was then, even so is my kach (strength / mighty / power) now for malachamah (war), to yatzaa (go out / come out) out and to bawaa (bring) in.

Now therefore nathan (give) me this har (mountain) country, of which Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) in that yawam (day); for you shamai (hearken / hear) in that yawam (day) how the inaqay (anakim) were there, and gadawal (very great/important/mighty) and batzar (fortified) irayam (cities). It awalay (perhaps) be that Yahawah () will be with me, and I shall yarash (drive) them out, as Yahawah () dabar (word / matter).”

Yahawashawai (Joshua) barak (blessed) him; and he nathan (give) Chabarawan (Hebron) to Kalab (Caleb) the ban (son) of Yapanah (Jephunneh) for an nachalah (inheritance).

Therefore Chabarawan (Hebron) became the nachalah (inheritance) of Kalab (Caleb) the ban (son) of Yapanah (Jephunneh) the Qanazay (Kenizzite) to this yawam (day); because he malaa (wholly) achar (other) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel).

Now the sham (name) of Chabarawan (Hebron) panayam (face) was Kiriath Qarayathaarabai (Arba), after the greatest adam (man) among the inaqay (anakim). The aratz (Earth/land) had shaqat (rest) from malachamah (war).
