Judges 14 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) yarad (went) down to Thamanah (Timnah), and raah (see / saw) a ayashah (woman / wife) in Thamanah (Timnah) of the banawath (daughters) of the Palashathay (Philistines).

He ilah (go up / offer) up, and nagad (told) his ab (father) and his am (mother), and said, “I raah (see / saw) seen a ayashah (woman / wife) in Thamanah (Timnah) of the banawath (daughters) of the Palashathay (Philistines): now therefore laqach (take / seize) her for me as ayashah (woman / wife).”

Then his ab (father) and his am (mother) amar (said) to him, “Is there ayan (NO ONE) a ayashah (woman / wife) among the banawath (daughters) of your ach (brother/kinsman)’, or among all my im (nation / people), that you halak (move) to laqach (take / seize) a ayashah (woman / wife) of the iral (uncircumcised) Palashathay (Philistines)?” Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) amar (said) to his ab (father), “laqach (take / seize) her for me; for she yashar (upright) me well.”

But his ab (father) and his am (mother) didn't yadai (know) that it was of Yahawah (); for he baqash (sought) an thaanah (occasion) against the Palashathay (Philistines). Now at that ith (time) the Palashathay (Philistines) mashal (rule/have dominion) rule over Yashar-Al (Israel).

Then yarad (went) Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) down, and his ab (father) and his am (mother), to Thamanah (Timnah), and bawaa (bring) to the karamay (vineyards) of Thamanah (Timnah): and behold, a young aray (lion) shaag (roared) qaraah (against) him.

The rawach (spirit / wind) of Yahawah () tzalach (came) mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat; and he had maawamah (nothing) in his yad (hand): but he didn't nagad (tell) his ab (father) or his am (mother) what he ishah (make) done.

He yarad (went) down, and dabar (word / matter) with the ayashah (woman / wife), and she yashar (upright) Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) well.

After a yawam (day) he shawab (turn) to laqach (take / seize) her; and he shawab (turn) sawar (aside) to raah (see / saw) the carcass of the aray (lion): and raah (see / saw), there was a idah (swarm) of dabawarayam (bees) in the gawayah (corpse) of the aray (lion), and dabash (honey).

He radah (rule over / have dominion of / subdue) it into his kap (hands), and yalak (went) on, akal (eat) as he halak (move); and he came to his ab (father) and am (mother), and nathan (give) to them, and they akal (eat): but he didn't nagad (tell) them that he radah (rule over / have dominion of / subdue) taken the dabash (honey) out of the gawayah (corpse) of the aray (lion).

His ab (father) yarad (went) down to the ayashah (woman / wife): and Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) ishah (make) there a mashathah (feast); for so used the bachawar (young) men to ishah (make).

It happened, when they raah (see / saw) him, that they laqach (take / seize) shalawashayam (thirty) maraiyam (companions) to be with him.

Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) amar (said) to them, “Let me tell you a chayadah (riddle) now. If you can nagad (declare) it to me within the shabai (seven) yamay (days) of the mashathah (feast), and matzaa (find) it out, then I will nathan (give) you shalawashayam (thirty) sadayan (linen) garments and shalawashayam (thirty) chalapath (changes) of bagad (clothing);

But if you can't nagad (declare) it to me, then you shall nathan (give) me shalawashayam (thirty) sadayan (linen) garments and shalawashayam (thirty) chalayapawath (changes) of bagad (clothing).” They amar (said) to him, “chawad (put) forth your chayadah (riddle), that we may shamai (hearken / hear) it.”

He amar (said) to them, “Out of the eater yatzaa (go out / come out) forth maakal (food). Out of the iz (strong) yatzaa (go out / come out) forth sweetness.” They couldn't in shalawash (three) yamayam (days) nagad (declare) the chayadah (riddle).

It happened on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day), that they amar (said) to Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) ayashah (woman / wife), “pathah (entice) your ayash (man / husband), that he may nagad (declare) to us the chayadah (riddle), lest we sharap (burn) you and your ab (father) bayath (house) with ash (fire). Have you qaraa (called) us to impoverish us? Is it not so?”

Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) ayashah (woman / wife) bakah (wept) before him, and amar (said), “You just shanaa (hate) me, and don't ahab (love) me. You have chawad (put) forth a chayadah (riddle) to the banay (my son) of my im (nation / people), and haven't nagad (told) it me.” He said to her, “Behold, I haven't amar (said) it my ab (father) nor my am (mother), and shall I nagad (tell) you?”

She bakah (wept) before him the shabai (seven) yamayam (days), while their mashathah (feast) hayah (came to pass): and it happened on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day), that he nagad (told) her, because she tzawaq (pressed) him severely; and she nagad (told) the chayadah (riddle) to the banay (my son) of her im (nation / people).

The anashay (men) of the iyar (city) amar (said) to him on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day) before the charas (sun) bawaa (bring) down, “What is sweeter than dabash (honey)? What is stronger than a aray (lion)?” He amar (said) to them, “If you hadn't charash (plowed) with my igalah (heifer), you wouldn't matzaa (have) found out my chayadah (riddle).”

The rawach (spirit / wind) of Yahawah () tzalach (came) mightily on him, and he yarad (went) down to Ashaqalawan (Ashkelon), and nakah (struck) shalawashayam (thirty) ayash (man / husband) of them, and took their spoil, and nathan (give) the chalayapawath (changes) of clothing to those who nagad (declared) the chayadah (riddle). His ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) was charah (hot with anger), and he ilah (go up / offer) up to his ab (father) bayath (house).

But Shamashawan (Shamashawan / Samson) ayashah (woman / wife) was given to his marai (companion), whom he had used as his raih (friend).
