Judges 7 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Then Yarabail (Jerubbaal), who is Gadaiwan (Gideon), and all the im (nation / people) who were with him, shakam (rose) up early, and chanah (encamped) beside the spring of Iyanacharad (Harod): and the machanah (camp) of Madayan (Midian) was on the tzapawan (north) side of them, by the gabaih (hill) of Mawarah (Moreh), in the imaq (valley).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Gadaiwan (Gideon), “The im (nation / people) who are with you are rab (too) many for me to nathan (give) the Madayan (Midianites) into their yad (hand), lest Yashar-Al (Israel) paar (vaunt) themselves amar (spoke) me, saying, ‘My own yad (hand) has yashai (salvation) me.’

Naa (now) therefore qaraa (called) in the azanay (ears) of the im (nation / people), amar (said), ‘Whoever is yaraa (fearful) and charad (trembling), let him shawab (turn) and depart from har (mountain) Galaid (Gilead).’” Isharayam (twenty) - shanayam (two) alap (thousand) of the im (nation / people) shawab (turn), and ishar (ten) alap (thousand) shaar (remained).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Gadaiwan (Gideon), “The im (nation / people) are still rab (too) many. Yarad (bring) them down to the mayam (Waters), and I will test them for you there. It shall be, that of whom I amar (spoke) you, ‘This shall yalak (go) with you,’ the same shall yalak (go) with you; and of whoever I amar (spoke) you, ‘This shall not yalak (go) with you,’ the same shall not yalak (go).”

So he yarad (brought) down the im (nation / people) to the mayam (Waters); and Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Gadaiwan (Gideon), “Everyone who laqaq (laps) of the mayam (Waters) with his lashawan (tongue / language), like a kalab (dog) laqaq (laps), you shall yatzag (set) him by himself; likewise everyone who karai (bows) down on his barak (blessed) to shathah (drinks).”

The masapar (number) of those who laqaq (lapped), putting their yad (hand) to their pah (mouth), was shalawash (three) maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband); but all the yathar (rest) of the im (nation / people) karai (bowed) down on their barak (blessed) to shathah (drinks) mayam (Waters).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Gadaiwan (Gideon), “By the shalawash (three) maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband) who laqaq (lapped) will I yashai (salvation) you, and nathan (give) the Madayan (Midianites) into your yad (hand). Let all the other im (nation / people) yalak (go), ayash (man / husband) to his own maqawam (place).”

So the im (nation / people) laqach (take / seize) food in their yad (hand), and their shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn); and he shalach (send) all the men of Yashar-Al (Israel) every ayash (man / husband) to his ahal (tent), but chazaq (retained) the shalawash (three) maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband): and the machanah (camp) of Madayan (Midian) was beneath him in the imaq (valley).

It happened the same layal (night), that Yahawah () amar (spoke) to him, “qawam (rise up), yarad (go) down into the machanah (camp); for I nathan (give) delivered it into your yad (hand).

But if you are yaraa (afraid) to yarad (go) down, yarad (go) with Parah (bear fruit / increase) your nair (servant) down to the machanah (camp):

And you shall shamai (hearken / hear) what they dabar (word / matter); and afterward your yad (hand) will be chazaq (strengthened) to yarad (go) down into the machanah (camp).” Then yarad (went) he down with Parah (bear fruit / increase) his nair (servant) to the outermost part of the chamash (armed) men who were in the machanah (camp).

The Madayan (Midianites) and the Imalaq (Amalekites) and all the banay (my son) of the qadam (east) napal (fall / be cast down) along in the imaq (valley) like arabah (locusts) for rab (multitude); and their gamal (camels) were without masapar (number), as the chawal (sand) which is on the shapah (seashore) for rab (multitude).

When Gadaiwan (Gideon) bawaa (bring) come, behold, there was a ayash (man / husband) sapar (book) a chalawam (dream) to his rai (neigbor/another person); and he said, “Behold, I chalam (dream) a chalawam (dream); and behold, a tzalawal (cake) of shairah (barley) lacham (bread) hapak (tumbled) into the machanah (camp) of Madayan (Midian), and bawaa (bring) to the ahal (tent), and nakah (struck) it so that it napal (fall / be cast down), and hapak (turned) it upside down, so that the ahal (tent) napal (fall / be cast down) flat.”

His rai (neigbor/another person) inah (answer / respond), “This is nothing other than the charab (sword) of Gadaiwan (Gideon) the ban (son) of Yawaash (Joash), a ayash (man / husband) of Yashar-Al (Israel). Alahayam () nathan (give) delivered Madayan (Midian) into his yad (hand), with all the machanah (army).”

It was so, when Gadaiwan (Gideon) shamai (hearken / hear) the masapar (telling) of the chalawam (dream), and its shabar (interpretation), that he shachah (worshiped); and he shawab (turn back / repent) into the machanah (camp) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and amar (spoke), “qawam (rise up); for Yahawah () nathan (give) delivered the machanah (army) of Madayan (Midian) into your yad (hand)!”

He chatzah (divided) the shalawash (three) maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband) into shalawash (three) raashayam (companies), and he nathan (give) into the yad (hand) of all of them shawaparawath (trumpets), and rayaq (empty) kadayam (pitchers), with torches thawak (midst) the kadayam (pitchers).

He amar (said) to them, “Watch me, and ishah (make) likewise. Behold, when I bawaa (bring) to the outermost part of the machanah (camp), it shall be that, as I ishah (make), so you shall ishah (make).

When I thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn), I and all who are with me, then thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawaparawath (trumpets) also on sabayab (surrounding) side of all the machanah (camp), and shout, ‘For Yahawah () and for Gadaiwan (Gideon)!’”

So Gadaiwan (Gideon), and the maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband) who were with him, bawaa (bring) to the outermost part of the machanah (camp) in the raash (head) of the thayakawan (middle) ashamarah (watch), when they had but qawam (rise up) qawam (rise up) the shamar (keep/guard): and they thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawaparawath (trumpets), and napatz (broke) in pieces the kadayam (pitchers) that were in their yad (hand).

The shalawash (three) raashayam (companies) thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawaparawath (trumpets), and shabar (broke) the kadayam (pitchers), and chazaq (held) the torches in their shamaawal (left hand) yad (hand), and the shawaparawath (trumpets) in their yamayan (right hand) yad (hand) with which to thaqai (blow / sound alarm); and they shouted, “The charab (sword) of Yahawah () and of Gadaiwan (Gideon)!”

They ayash (man / husband) imad (stood) in his sabayab (surrounding) around the machanah (camp); and all the machanah (army) rawatz (ran); and they rawai (shouted), and nawas (put) them to flight.

They thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shalawash (three) maah (hundred) shawaparawath (trumpets), and Yahawah () shawam (place / establish / appoint) every ayash (man / husband) charab (sword) against his rai (neigbor/another person), and against all the machanah (army); and the machanah (army) nawas (fled) as far as Bayathahashatah (Beth Shittah) toward Tzararah (Zererah), as far as the shapah (border) of Abalamachawalah (Abel Meholah), by Tabath (Tabbath).

The ayash (man / husband) of Yashar-Al (Israel) were tzaiq (gathered) together out of Napathalay (Naphtali), and out of Ashar (who/that), and out of all Manashah (Manasseh), and radap (pursued) achar (other) Madayan (Midian).

Gadaiwan (Gideon) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) throughout all the har (mountain) country of Aparayam (Ephraim), amar (said), “yarad (come) down qaraah (against) Madayan (Midian), and lakad (take) before them the mayam (Waters), as far as Bayathabarah (Beth Barah), even the Yaradan (Jordan)!” So all the ayash (man / husband) of Aparayam (Ephraim) were tzaiq (gathered) together, and lakad (took) the mayam (Waters) as far as Bayathabarah (Beth Barah), even the Yaradan (Jordan).

They lakad (took) the shanayam (two) sharay (princes) of Madayan (Midian), Irab (evening) and Zaab (Zeeb); and they harag (kill) Irab (evening) at the tzawar (rock) of Irab (evening), and Zaab (Zeeb) they harag (kill) at the yaqab (winepress) of Zaab (Zeeb), and radap (pursued) Madayan (Midian): and they bawaa (bring) the raash (head) of Irab (evening) and Zaab (Zeeb) to Gadaiwan (Gideon) ibar (beyond) the Yaradan (Jordan).
