Now there was a achad (one) ayash (man / husband) of Ramathayamatzawapayam (Ramathaim Zophim), of the har (mountain) country of Aparayam (Ephraim), and his sham (name) was Alaqanah (Elkanah), the ban (son) of Yaracham (Jeroham), the ban (son) of Alayahaw (Elihu), the ban (son) of Thachaw (Tohu), the ban (son) of Tzawap (Zuph), an Aparathay (Ephraimite):
And he had shanayam (two) wives; the sham (name) of the achad (one) was Chanah (Hannah), and the sham (name) of other Pananah (Peninnah): and Pananah (Peninnah) had yaladayam (children), but Chanah (Hannah) had no yaladayam (children).
Hawaa (which/who/that is) ayash (man / husband) ilah (go up / offer) up out of his iyar (city) from yawam (day) to year to shachah (worship) and to zabach (sacrifice) to Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) in Shayalah (Shiloh). The shanayam (two) banay (sons) of Ilay (Eli), Chapanay (Hophni) and Payanachas (Phinehas), kahanayam (priests) to Yahawah (), were there.
When the yawam (day) came that Alaqanah (Elkanah) zabach (sacrificed), he nathan (give) to Pananah (Peninnah) his ayashah (woman / wife), and to all her ban (son) and her banath (daughter), manawath (portions):
But to Chanah (Hannah) he nathan (give) a double manah (portion); for he ahab (love) Chanah (Hannah), but Yahawah () had sagar (shut) up her racham (womb).
Her rival kais (provoked) her severely, to raim (make) her fret, because Yahawah () had sagar (shut) up her racham (womb).
As he ishah (make) so shanah (year) by shanah (year), when she ilah (go up / offer) up to the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), so she kais (provoked) her; therefore she bakah (wept), and didn't akal (eat).
Alaqanah (Elkanah) her ayash (man / husband) amar (said) to her, “Chanah (Hannah), why do you bakah (weep)? Why don't you akal (eat)? Why is your labab (heart) grieved? Am I not tawab (good / proper function) to you than ishar (ten) banayam (sons)?”
So Chanah (Hannah) qawam (rise up) up achar (other) they had akal (eat) in Shayalah (Shiloh), and achar (other) they had shathah (drinks). Now Ilay (Eli) the kahan (priest) was sitting on his kasaa (seat) by the doorpost of the hayakal (temple) of Yahawah ().
She was in bitterness of napash (soul), and palal (prayed) to Yahawah (), and bakah (wept) bitterly.
She nadar (make vow) a nadar (vow), and amar (spoke), “Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), if you will raah (see) raah (see) on the inay (affliction) of your handmaid, and zakar (remember) me, and not shakach (forget) your handmaid, but will nathan (give) to your handmaid a boy, then I will nathan (give) him to Yahawah () all the yamay (days) of his chay (life), and no mawarah (razor) shall ilah (go up / offer) on his raash (head).”
It happened, as she rabah (continued) palal (praying) panayam (face) Yahawah (), that Ilay (Eli) Ilay (saw) her pah (mouth).
Now Chanah (Hannah) dabar (word / matter) in her lab (heart). Only her shapah (lips) nawai (moved), but her qawal (sound / voice) was not shamai (hearken / hear). Therefore Ilay (went up) chashab (thought) she had been shakawar (drunken).
Ilay (went up) amar (said) to her, “How long will you be shakar (drunken)? Sawar (put) away your yayan (wine) from you.”
Chanah (Hannah) inah (answer / respond), “No, my Adawan (), I am a ayashah (woman / wife) of a qashah (rough / hard) rawach (spirit / wind). I have shathah (drinks) neither yayan (wine) nor shakar (strong) drink, but I shapak (poured) out my napash (soul) panayam (face) Yahawah ().
Don't nathan (give) your handmaid for a balayail (wicked) banath (daughter); for I have been dabar (word / matter) out of the rab (abundance) of my shayach (complaint) and my kais (provocation).”
Then Ilay (Eli) inah (answer / respond), “yalak (go) in shalawam (peace / safety); and may the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel) nathan (give) your shaalah (petition) that you have shaal (asked) of him.”
She amar (said), “Let your handmaid matzaa (find) favor in your iyan (eye).” So the ayashah (woman / wife) yalak (went) her darak (way), and akal (eat); and her facial expression wasn't sad any more.
They shakam (rose) up in the baqar (morning) shakam (early), and shachah (worshiped) panayam (face) Yahawah (), and shawab (turn back / repent), and bawaa (come) to their bayath (house) to Ramah (Ramah): and Alaqanah (Elkanah) yadai (knew) Chanah (Hannah) his ayashah (woman / wife); and Yahawah () zakar (remember) her.
It happened, when the yawam (day) had thaqawapah (come), that Chanah (Hannah) harah (conceived), and yalad (birth / begot) a ban (son); and she qaraa (called) him Shamawaal (Samuel), saying, “Because I have shaal (asked) him of Yahawah ().”
The ayash (man / husband) Alaqanah (Elkanah), and all his bayath (house), ilah (go up / offer) up to zabach (offer) to Yahawah () the yawam (day) zabach (sacrifice), and his nadar (vow).
But Chanah (Hannah) didn't ilah (go up / offer) up; for she amar (spoke) to her ayash (man / husband), “Not until the nair (child) is weaned; then I will bawaa (come) him, that he may raah (see) panayam (face) Yahawah (), and stay there iwalam (forever).”
Alaqanah (Elkanah) her ayash (man / husband) amar (spoke) to her, “ishah (make) what seems tawab (good / proper function) to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahawah () qawam (rise up) his dabar (word / matter).” So the ayashah (woman / wife) waited and yanaq (nursed) her ban (son), until she weaned him.
When she had weaned him, she ilah (go up / offer) him up with her, with shalawash (three) parayam (bulls), and achad (one) ayapah (ephah) of qamach (meal), and a nabal (bottle) of yayan (wine), and bawaa (come) him to Yahawah () bayath (house) in Shayalah (Shiloh). The nair (child) was nair (young).
They shachat (killed) the par (bull), and bawaa (bring) the nair (child) to Ilay (went up).
She amar (spoke), “Oh, my Adawan (), as your napash (soul) chay (life), my Adawan (), I am the ayashah (woman / wife) who natzab (stood) by you here, palal (praying) to Yahawah ().
For this nair (child) I palal (prayed); and Yahawah () nathan (give) given me my shaalah (petition) which I shaal (asked) of him.
Therefore also I have granted him to Yahawah (). As yawam (day) as he lives he is granted to Yahawah ().” He shachah (worshiped) Yahawah () there.
