Samuel 18 — English–Hebrew Parallel

It happened, when he kalah (complete / finish) made an end of dabar (word / matter) to Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), that the napash (soul) of Yahawanathan (Jonathan) was qashar (knit) with the napash (soul) of Dawad (David), and Yahawanathan (Jonathan) ahab (love) him as his own napash (soul).

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) laqach (take / seize) him that yawam (day), and nathan (give) let him shawab (turn) no more home to his ab (father) shawab (turn).

Then Yahawanathan (Jonathan) and Dawad (David) karath (cut) a barayath (covenant), because he ahabah (loved) him as his own napash (soul).

Yahawanathan (Jonathan) pashat (stripped) himself of the maiyal (robe) that was on him, and nathan (give) it to Dawad (David), and his clothing, even to his charab (sword), and to his qashath (bow), and to his sash.

Dawad (David) yatzaa (go out / come out) out wherever Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) shalach (send) him, and shakal (behaved) himself wisely: and Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) shawam (place / establish / appoint) him over the anashay (men) of malachamah (war), and it was yatab (good) in the iyan (eye) of all the im (nation / people), and also in the iyan (eye) of Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) ibaday (servant of).

It happened as they bawaa (bring), when Dawad (David) shawab (turn) from the nakah (slaughter) of the Palashathay (Philistine), that the nashayam (women) yatzaa (go out / come out) out of all the iray (cities) of Yashar-Al (Israel), shayar (singing) and machawalah (dance), to qaraa (called) malak (king) Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), with tambourines, with shamachah (joy), and with shalashayam (instruments) of music.

The nashayam (women) inah (answer / respond) one to another as they shachaq (played), and amar (said), “Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) has nakah (slain) his alap (thousands), Dawad (David) his ten alap (thousands).”

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) was very charah (hot with anger), and this dabar (word / matter) displeased him; and he amar (said), “They nathan (give) ascribed to Dawad (David) rababah (ten) thousands, and to me they nathan (give) ascribed but alapayam (thousands). What can he have more but the malawakah (kingdom)?”

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) eyed Dawad (David) from that yawam (day) and halaah (forward).

It happened on the next macharath (day), that an rai (evil) rawach (spirit / wind) from Alahayam () tzalach (came) mightily on Shaawal (Saul), and he nabaa (prophesied) in the thawak (midst) of the bayath (house). Dawad (David) nagan (played) with his yad (hand), as he did yawam (day) by day. Shaawal (Saul) had his chanayath (spear) in his yad (hand);

And Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) threw the chanayath (spear); for he amar (said), “I will pin Dawad (David) even to the qayar (wall)!” Dawad (David) escaped from his panayam (face) paim (twice).

Shaawal (Saul) was yaraa (fear / be afraid) of Dawad (David), because Yahawah () was with him, and was sawar (departed) from Shaawal (Saul).

Therefore Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) sawar (removed) him from him, and shawam (place / establish / appoint) him his shar (prince / ruler) over a alap (thousand); and he yatzaa (go out / come out) out and bawaa (bring) in panayam (face) the im (nation / people).

Dawad (David) shakal (behaved) himself wisely in all his darak (ways); and Yahawah () was with him.

When Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) raah (see / saw) that he shakal (behaved) himself very shakal (wisely), he gawar (stood) in awe of him.

But all Yashar-Al (Israel) and Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) ahab (love) Dawad (David); for he yatzaa (go out / come out) out and bawaa (bring) in panayam (face) them.

Shaawal (Saul) amar (spoke) to Dawad (David), “Behold, my gadawal (very great/important/mighty) banath (daughter) Marab (Merab), I will nathan (give) her to you as ayashah (woman / wife). Only be ban (son) for me, and lacham (fight) Yahawah () malachamawath (battles).” For Shaawal (Saul) amar (spoke), “Don't let my yad (hand) be on him, but let the yad (hand) of the Palashathay (Philistines) be on him.”

Dawad (David) amar (said) to Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), “Who am I, and what is my chay (life), or my ab (father) mashapachah (tribe / clan / family) in Yashar-Al (Israel), that I should be son-in-law to the malak (king)?”

But it happened at the ith (time) when Marab (Merab), Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) banath (daughter), should nathan (give) been given to Dawad (David), that she was nathan (give) to Idarayaal (Adriel) the Meholathite as ayashah (woman / wife).

Mayakal (Michal), Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) banath (daughter), ahab (love) Dawad (David); and they nagad (told) Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), and the thing yashar (upright) him.

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) amar (said), I will nathan (give) her to him, that she may be a mawaqash (snare) to him, and that the yad (hand) of the Palashathay (Philistines) may be against him. Therefore Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) amar (said) to Dawad (David), “You shall this yawam (day) be my son-in-law a shanayam (two) time.”

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) tzawah (commanded) his ibad (servant), “dabar (word / matter) with Dawad (David) lat (secretly), and amar (said), ‘Behold, the malak (king) chapatz (has) delight in you, and all his ibad (servant) ahab (love) you: now therefore be the malak (king) son-in-law.’”

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) ibaday (servant of) dabar (word / matter) those dabarayam (words) in the azanay (ears) of Dawad (David). Dawad (David) amar (said), “Does it seems to you a qalal (light) thing to be the malak (king) son-in-law, since I am a rawash (poor) ayash (man / husband), and qalah (lightly) esteemed?”

The ibaday (servant of) of Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) nagad (told) him, amar (said), “Dawad (David) nagad (spoke) like this.”

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) amar (said), “You shall amar (said) Dawad (David), ‘The malak (king) chapatz (desires) no mahar (dowry) except one maah (hundred) iralawath (foreskins) of the Palashathay (Philistines), to be naqam (avenged) of the malak (king) ayabay (enemies).’” Now Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) chashab (thought) to make Dawad (David) napal (fall / be cast down) by the yad (hand) of the Palashathay (Philistines).

When his ibad (servant) nagad (told) Dawad (David) these dabarayam (words), it dabar (word / matter) Dawad (David) well to be the malak (king) son-in-law. The yamayam (days) were not malaa (expired);

And Dawad (David) qawam (rise up) and yalak (went), he and his ayash (man / husband), and nakah (killed) of the Palashathay (Philistines) two maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband); and Dawad (David) bawaa (bring) their iralah (foreskins), and they malaa (gave) them in full number to the malak (king), that he might be the malak (king) son-in-law. Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) nathan (give) him Mayakal (Michal) his banath (daughter) as ayashah (woman / wife).

Shaawal (Saul) raah (see) and yadai (knew) that Yahawah () was with Dawad (David); and Mayakal (Michal), Shaawal (Saul's) banath (daughter), ahab (love) him.

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) was yet the more yaraa (fear / be afraid) of Dawad (David); and Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) was Dawad (David's) ayab (enemy) yawam (day).

Then the sharay (princes) of the Palashathay (Philistines) yatzaa (go out / come out) forth: and it happened, as often as they yatzaa (go out / come out) forth, that Dawad (David) shakal (behaved) himself more wisely than all the ibaday (servant of) of Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife); so that his sham (name) was highly esteemed.
