1 Samuel 22 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 Dawad (David) therefore departed there, and malat (escaped) to the mairah (cave) of Idalam (Adullam). When his ach (brother/kinsman) and all his ab (father) bayath (house) shamai (hearken / hear) it, they yarad (went) down there to him.

2 Everyone who was in matzawaq (distress), and everyone who was in nashaa (lift), and everyone who was mar (discontented), qabatz (gathered) themselves to him; and he became shar (prince / ruler) over them: and there were with him about arabai (four) maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband).

3 Dawad (David) yalak (went) there to Matzapah (Mizpeh) of Mawaab (Moab), and he amar (spoke) to the malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab), “Please let my ab (father) and my am (mother) yatzaa (go out / come out) out with you, until I yadai (know) what Alahayam () will ishah (make) for me.”

4 He nachah (brought) them panayam (face) the malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab); and they lived with him all the yawam (day) that Dawad (David) was in the stronghold.

5 The nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) Gad (Gad) amar (said) to Dawad (David), “Don't stay in the stronghold. Depart, and bawaa (bring) into the aratz (Earth/land) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah).” Then Dawad (David) departed, and bawaa (bring) into the yair (forest) of Charath (Hereth).

6 Shaawal (Saul) shamai (hearken / hear) that Dawad (David) was yadai (discovered), and the yadai (men) who were with him. Now Shaawal (Saul) was sitting in Gabaih (Gibeah), under the tamarisk ashal (tree) in Ramah (), with his chanayath (spear) in his yad (hand), and all his ibad (servant) were natzab (standing) about him.

7 Shaawal (Saul) amar (spoke) to his ibad (servant) who natzab (stood) about him, “shamai (hearken / hear) now, you Banayamayanay (Benjamites)! Will the ban (son) of Yashay (Jesse) nathan (give) everyone of you shadawath (fields) and karamayam (vineyards), will he shawam (place / establish / appoint) you all sharay (captains) of alapayam (thousands) and sharay (captains) of maawath (hundreds),

8 That all of you have qashar (conspired) against me, and there is none who galah (discloses) to me when my ban (son) karath (cut) a treaty with the ban (son) of Yashay (Jesse), and there is none of you who is chalah (afflict) for me, or galah (discloses) to me that my ban (son) has qawam (rise up) up my ibad (servant) against me, to lie in arab (wait), as at this yawam (day)?”

9 Then Daag (Doeg) the Adawamay (Edomite), who natzab (stood) by the ibaday (servant of) of Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), amar (said) and amar (said), “I raah (see / saw) the ban (son) of Yashay (Jesse) bawaa (bring) to Nab (Nob), to Achayamalak (Ahimelech) the ban (son) of Achayatawab (Ahitub).

10 He inquired of Yahawah () for him, nathan (give) him food, and nathan (give) him the charab (sword) of Galayath (Goliath) the Palashathay (Philistine).”

11 Then the malak (king) shalach (send) to qaraa (called) Achayamalak (Ahimelech) the kahan (priest), the ban (son) of Achayatawab (Ahitub), and all his ab (father) bayath (house), the kahanayam (priests) who were in Nab (Nob): and they bawaa (bring) all of them to the malak (king).

12 Shaawal (Saul) amar (spoke), “shamai (hearken / hear) now, you ban (son) of Achayatawab (Ahitub).” He amar (spoke), “Here I am, my Adawan ().”

13 Shaawal (Saul) amar (spoke) to him, “Why have you qashar (conspired) against me, you and the ban (son) of Yashay (Jesse), in that you nathan (give) given him lacham (bread), and a charab (sword), and have inquired of Alahayam () for him, that he should qawam (rise up) against me, to lie in arab (wait), as at this yawam (day)?”

14 Then Achayamalak (Ahimelech) inah (answer / respond) the malak (king), and amar (said), “Who among all your ibad (servant) is so aman (believe / have faith) as Dawad (David), who is the malak (king) son-in-law, and is sawar (taken) into your council, and is honorable in your bayath (house)?

15 Have I today chalal (begun) to inquire of Alahayam () for him? Be it chalayalah (far) from me! Don't let the malak (king) shawam (place / establish / appoint) anything to his ibad (servant), nor to all the bayath (house) of my ab (father); for your ibad (servant) yadai (knows) nothing of all this, qatan (small / young / least) or more.”

16 The malak (king) amar (said), “You shall mawath (death) mawath (death), Achayamalak (Ahimelech), you, and all your ab (father) bayath (house).”

17 The malak (king) amar (spoke) to the rawatz (guard) who natzab (stood) about him, “sabab (turn), and mawath (death) the kahanay (priests) of Yahawah (); because their yad (hand) also is with Dawad (David), and because they yadai (knew) that he barach (fled), and didn't galah (disclose) it to me.” But the ibaday (servants) of the malak (king) wouldn't shalach (send) forth their yad (hand) to pagai (fall) on the kahanay (priests) of Yahawah ().

18 The malak (king) amar (said) to Daag (Doeg), “sabab (turn) and attack the kahanayam (priests)!” Daag (Doeg) the Adawamay (Edomite) sabab (turned), and he attacked the kahanayam (priests), and he mawath (death) on that yawam (day) shamanayam (eighty) - chamash (five) ayash (man / husband) who nashaa (lift) a bad (linen) apawad (ephod).

19 He nakah (struck) Nab (Nob), the iyar (city) of the kahanayam (priests), with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), both ayash (man / husband) and ayashah (woman / wife), iwalal (children) and yanaq (nursing) babies, and cattle and donkeys and shah (sheep), with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword).

20 Achad (one) of the ban (son) of Achayamalak (Ahimelech), the ban (son) of Achayatawab (Ahitub), sham (name) Abayathar (Abiathar), malat (escaped), and barach (fled) achar (other) Dawad (David).

21 Abayathar (Abiathar) nagad (told) Dawad (David) that Shaawal (Saul) had harag (kill) Yahawah () kahanay (priests).

22 Dawad (David) amar (said) to Abayathar (Abiathar), “I yadai (knew) on that yawam (day), when Daag (Doeg) the Adawamay (Edomite) was there, that he would nagad (surely) nagad (tell) Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife). I am responsible for the death of all the napash (soul) of your ab (father) bayath (house).

23 Stay with me, don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid); for he who baqash (seeks) my napash (soul) baqash (seeks) your napash (soul). For with me you shall be in mashamarath (duty / watch).”
