Jonah's prayer
Jonah 2:1–9
Out of the belly of the fish, out of the belly of Shaawal, a prayer that ends in a vow: salvation is of Yahawah.
1 Yahawah () manah (prepared) a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) dag (fish) to balai (swallow) up Yawanah (Jonah), and he was in the maih (belly) of the dag (fish) shalawash (three) yawam (day) and shalawash (three) layal (nights).
2 Then Yawanah (Jonah) prayed to Yahawah (), his Alahayam (), out of the dag (fish's) maih (belly).
3 He said, “I called because of my affliction to Yahawah (). He answered me. Out of the maih (belly) of Shaawal (Sheol) I cried. You heard my voice.
4 For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your waves and your billows passed over me.
5 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’
6 The waters surrounded me, even to the soul. The deep was around me. The weeds were wrapped around my head.
7 I sabab (went) down to the bottoms of the mountains. The earth barred me in forever: yet have you sabab (brought) up my napash (soul) from the pit, Yahawah () my Alahayam ().
8 “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Yahawah (). My prayer yarad (came) in to you, into your holy temple.
9 Those who regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
